I just got my 2005 Sunfire, got some new speakers, and a new Pioneer DEH-P3800MP head unit. Well, I forgot to buy a connector harness or whatever so my friend who has worked on all my cars' audio in the past went ahead and tried splicing! After a blown fuse, we thought we had it all figured out. Turns out theres no power going to the head unit, it won't come on. Any help??? I believe there is a gray and black wire left over.
Hello?? Any help??
We got wiring diagrams and everything should be in order. Just not sure why the cd player is not getting any juice.
Splicing is bad and wrong... if you didn't cut the darn plug off then go buy a harness adapter for like $10-$20 anywhere and do it right...
Gray wire??? well that would be one for front right speaker... not sure why you would have that left over... and a black wire?? left over?? that's your ground wire dude... you need that for it to work...
LOL.
1) grey is a speaker wire.
2) Black is a Ground wire
3) You need a 12V switching wire as well, Its not in the harness.
Read the stickies and do a search.
Um yeah I've got the ground wire in, I know what that is.....I'm not sure what was left over since it was 11:30pm in my dark yard.......but i think i'm just gonna take it to get professionally installed since my friend is an apparent retard (though he has spliced on 3 other cars with no problem)
That darn harness adapter from Crutchfield is like $80!! Is there another one roaming around that I could use??
Don't think I'm a total idoit, I wanted to just wait and get the harness adapter but 3 guys with a bunch of tools leads to curiosity, which leads to "yeah we can make this work", which leads to a total mess.
Wrong harness. Just ask for a metra harness for the sunfires and cavys. Its at most $25.
You will lose your door chimes though, and headlight chimes when you have them on when car is off. The $80 one fixs that.
Cool, thanks for the help........We did cut the original harness off from the stock stereo though. Not sure if that's fixable but I guess I'll find out. Should have done my homework on this one.
Ok, gosh i'm such a newbie, but here's my final questions.............
1) Ok, I'm going to try and rewire the factory harness since my friend cut all the wires so he could connect like an idiot. Is this possible/difficult?? The bits of wiring are still there so I can match the colors with no problem.
2) I'm buying a darn Metra harness adapter for my car and doing it the right way. BUT I'm reading that I will still have to do something with a brown 12V wire. I'm new with this so what is the best way to tackle this?
3) Think I should just take my car as is to the local car stereo shop and let them deal with it and pay a buttload of cash?
1) Its not difficult, but will take much longer, Plug and play is so much easier.
2) If its the 12V switched wire, then you need to tap a power source. Most people use a fuse tap, and run the wire from the harness connection to the Wiper fuse in the fuse box on the driver side of the dash. A fuse tap is a really cheap metal blade that extends the power from the fuse to your wire.
3) NO, do it yourslef, its a learning experiance, then yell at your friend.
Big Thanks El fuego!!! I also checked out John Lenko's website as I was searching and WOW things just started to make sense. My friend is gonna eat dust
