Amp going to protect mode
Saturday, August 26, 2006 7:12 PM
As soon as the amp turns on it goes into protect mode and all i here is like static coming from the subwoofers. I tried disconnecting the subwoofers but the protect light is still on. I disconnected the amp completely and reconnected it and it still does it. The only time that the protect light is off is when i remove the remote wire and the amp will stay on for about a minute before turning off. What could be causing this? OH and my amp worked and then one day i opened my trunk and it went into protect and hasn't worked since.

Check your ground. I bet when you opened ur trunk something happened with the ground.
Where's your ground hooked too??

My sub amp is grounded to a distributor block, both my sub amp and my mid amp are grounded to the same block using 4 and 8 guage respectively and the block is grounded to bare metal using 0 guage and the screw is on tight. My mid amp still works no problem.

amp is most likely going to need to be repaired, same thing happen to my friends audiobahn a2200hct,i sold it to him in perfect working order until he forgot to cap off his amp turn on wire(idiot) the wire hit the RCA sent a spike to the amp and yea....po0f,now when u turn the amp on it immediately goes to protection mode even with the subs disconnected, cost him $225 to get fixed....what kinda amp? how old? did it get wet or anything? the reason an amplifier goes into protction mode is b/c it is thermally overloading(to0 high of a tempature) so the amplifier main functions are turned off by the protection status of the amp, usually fried out diodes, capactiors, cip components etc, anything internally in the amp will cause this to happen.....and yes water can make this happen also

The amp didn't get wet to the best of my knowledge. I also was thinking that i was going to have to send the amp in for repair. it is about 3months old and it is a power acoustik 1920 amp. I got it through ebay so i don't think it has a warranty. i think i am going to get a soundstream for $175 US next. thanks for the help guys.
