Finally got the System I want...............

OK most know I had 2 10W7's and 2 500/1's for power. IT WAS PRETTY NICE!!

Then I went to 4 8W7's and a 1000/1 And even NICER!

Then this past spring I installed my AIR RIDE and the 4 8W7's would not fit anymore.

I sold 2 of the 8's to my buddy. He was HAPPY

So I only had 2 8W7's in there all year. Not too shabby at all. Still happy. But I had WAY TOO much power left over. The 8's only require 300watts RMS each. So I wanted that 2 10W7 sound back.

So my 8's went up for sale and I ended up Trading them for a Single 12W7. Thanks KARNAGE! (JEFF)

Well a couple of months ago I bought a 12W7 while still working at Duke's with the intention of installing it by itself.

The cone area of the 2 8W7's was 76sq inches and handled less power than a single 12W7 which can handle 750rms and has MORE encursion and 84 sq. inches of cone area. So a single 12W7 is just as loud as the 2 8's if not more.

Well now I have 2 12W7's a 1000/1, so I will be building a new enclosure/amp rack and redoing my Air Ride to all fit in nicely and next year it will a very interesting experience inside the Cavy.

Still trying to decide on PORTED into the trunk facing back.

OR Sealed into the Car facing forward.

I'm gonna see how much space both will take up and see if I can do some drawings to see which will look better too.

Either way I'll keep you guys posted.

The box Jeff had the 12w7 in is WAYY TOO BIG for it. It looks to me EXACTLY like a KICKER L7 box with a W7 in it instead. It sounds decent but I only listened to it for 2 days. I don't want to ruin the Sub by running it in a box that is too big with 1000watts going to it. I'm just getting ready to store the car for winter so I will maybe only drive it a few more times anyway.

The box the 12 came in looks to me like around 2.5cubes with a HUGE PORT. I built one for my buddy before and Kicker had I think 3 different designs to chose from as far as SIZE, this looks to me to be the Middle one. I built the smaller one for my buddy.

I know it is too big, JL specs are 22wide/15deep/15tall. This is 34wide and about 15tall and 14deep it is HUGE!

Whoever built it did a good job, it is just not for a W7.

you could use the rear deck as part of your enclosure too use some of that dead trunk space up high

If I end up going foward with the box (sealed or ported) I really wanna make sure I do as much as I can to try to make it an AIRTIGHT seal from the trunk to the cabin. Too many installs I see with the Subs facing in and they left gaps for air to escape and it either sounded like garbage or it was not loud. I gotta see how much work is involved and see if I do it that way it will still look good. This is the Last time I plan on messing with the System and then I'm moving to Body mods and paint. I want it to be a show car and that way I can start on a new project and quit redoing this every year.

Myself and the manager didn't get along very well at all. Well him and every employee don't. The owners of Duke's want me back, but I won't work at his store. It is that bad.

No saturdays off ALL SUMMER, EVER AT ALL!!

Couldn't leave for a little longer lunch to go to a friends funeral service, he said "I GOT TO GET MY HAIR CUT" so that is why I couldn't go. The messed up thing is he gets his hair cut every other thursday, and he has the hair line of Homer Simpson. Seriously. I think more is going on with his hair lady friend.

But yeah I don't work there. And the sucky part is I LOVED MY JOB and I WAS GOOD AT IT!

No problem buddy.. I hope you have fun with it, I def. wanna hear it sometime soon, its gonna be pretty crazy, im really happy with the 8s, the amp actually responds pretty well with the 8s on it, and everyone is very impressed when they get to check it out, for me I think the 8s were a better option too, so we are both happy.

True, it has always been my hobby.

Always will be, I love electronics and music, while being able to make it silly loud.

thast the reason i never got into it as a job besides me having a destryoed back is that its a fun hobby and at most places you get burned out on it.

james its really not hard to seal it up. just gotta pull your rear deck and side panels(dont forget about the sides) and just cut some mdf to fit. then lay a board up to the back and trace the opening. mine was so tight you couldnt get a single wire thru so i had to run all my wiring in thru an opening in the side panels wich takes a bunch more wiring.
