Wiring help???
Sunday, October 22, 2006 8:58 AM
Hi,

Want to add a couple lights under the dash of a 2004 Cavalier. Is there a wire that's either hooked up to the dimmer switch or only provides power when the ignition is on (don't really care which) that wouldn't be too hard to tap into? The lights are LED, so the dimmer switch wouldn't be a problem...

I wouldn't know how to begin taking the dash apart on this car... Doesn't look easy... Any advice???

The lights for the heater controls are so close... Don't know how to get in there though. Any easy way to get to the radio wiring?

Thanks!!!

have to take dash apart to get to radio wiring, if it doesnt need to be on the dimmer then tap a wire into the wiper fuse, or if you only want them on when the parking lights are on then tap it into the cluster lighting fuse.

That's what I'll do. Think I was hoping to avoid a fuse tap because I thought the wire would show the way the fuse box is... or maybe just because I didn't have any fuse taps on hand... LOL... Maybe I can figure something out. Won't be terrible in any case.

Thanks for the help!!!

Well... It was possible to run the wire into the fuse box without it showing. And there was already a nice fuse tap in there for my sunroof. Just cut off the connector plugged into it and added the wire for my lights to a new one. I was all worried for nothing...

Have some ultra violet LED lights lighting up a blacklight poster I cut to fit the bottom of the large tray behind the cupholders in my 2004 Cav. Laminated the poster in plastic and stuck it to the bottom of the tray with some non-drying poster hanger putty. Looks prettty cool, even in the daytime and should light up my ashtray / cupholder area a bit. Hope it's not too blinding at night.

Thanks again for the push in the right direction!!!
