I bought an Alpine 9835 cd player for my car and wired it up. The radio and display work perfectly, clear sound and all. But something is wrong with the CD Player portion of the deck. When I put a cd in, no sound comes out. The track name and artist scroll across the screen and the timer even counts up in seconds, but no sound plays. You can skip to any track on the cd and the artist name and song will scroll but no sound will come out. I double checked my wiring and stopped by Best Buy where I had a friend wire it up to the speakers in the install bay and the same thing, no sound. Anybody have any ideas what would cause this problem? I thought maybe the laser wans't reading the disc, but if it scrolls the artist and track and even counts up in seconds, the laser must be reading something. Anybody else had something like this happen? Just thought I'd throw it out there and see if somebody knows something. Thanks.
Nice choice. I have the same one.
Did you get it off eBay??
I think the cd part is shot. There are some cd menu options but none that would make it do that.
Call alpines tech support. They're really good at helpin and have been really nice to me.

Is there an option to turn on/off the factory amp inside that head unit?
ezest way it to just replace it hopefully u got it form some where that had a warrenty on it and u'll be fine
best of luck to ya
Yea, I got the damn thing off ebay. =( I didn't want the 9855 and the 9857 is even worse. The guy said it was brand new and it looked like it was. Box, manual everything. Still had bubble wrap around the DC/DC converter with Alpine tape on it. Face plate was flawless without a scratch. I had to cut the harness out of the plastic and the batteries for the remote were still wrapped in plastic, inside the sealed bag with an expiration date of 06/2006!! Figuring if the deck came out in 2004, 2006 might be right for an expiration date of some cheap batteries. If it wasn't new, he certainly did a lot to make it look new. Wire it up and everything works but the CD Player doesn't have any sound coming from it. I tried different CD's and the same thing with all. Lanman31337, there is an option to turn the internal amp on and off, I played around with it but nothing. I guess I'll call Alpine and see what the repair rates are. Thanks for the replies guys, I was just making sure it wasn't something I was doing wrong.
naw man u didnt do anything wrong its hard to do somthin wrong but think for a sec if he had a harness in his car already then he would have to take anything out of the package and alot of ppl dont like remotes so why use it so really he might not have gonew throught that much truble at all but i'm sorry for the loss man i hope things work out for u
Yea, now that you mention it, it makes sense. If this one was broken and he purchased a new one, he could have transfered all the new parts to the broken one so it looked new. And just transfered his scratched faceplate to the working one he bought. I called Alpine and the nearest "authorized" repair center is in Virginia (I'm in Florida). They said the repair would be $95. I spent $300 on the damn thing, now another $95 to repair it. Wasn't it $400 brand new?? lol. We'll see.
Usually faceplates arent swappable though.
Good luck getting it straightened out.
Yeah hes right about the faceplates....usually they arent swappable because if they where theives would just take steal your deck and buy a new faceplate for it......defeats the purpose... BTW whats wrong with the 9855? I have it....do you just not like the glide-bar or is there something else bad about it?
OMG you are still around! PM me bro...
