I have a 98 4 door that I checked the horn after removing from car to see if it worked and it does work after testing it.
Now the manual says check the relay. I don't see any relay that says horn on it. The horn is on the cigarette lighter circuit. I checked all the fuses and they are okay. WHICH ONE is the one for the horn?
IF it isn't the relay does anyone have anymore ideas on what it might be?
um there is relay on the stering column i belive. unhook the horn and press it, listen for a click
I may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
Yup, it's a tiny little relay taped to the outside of the plastic loom on the steering column wiring.
Okay that helps a lot.. I hope that is my problem. Will let you know if that is it when I can check it out tomorrow..
I really need some help finding that relay. It is a 3 prong connection instead of the 4. I have looked everywhere under the dash for that relay. I even bought a new one thinking that if I knew what it looked like I would have no problem finding it.
Nothing on the steering column is even close. I also noticed a ground wire that only had a connector under the main bolts for the steering post. There is only a little piece of black wire there but there is no lose black wire any where for me to hook that up.
Do I need a ground wire on the steering post? Where do I hook up the black ground wire? THis isn't making a lot of sense to me.
I am about ready to take it too the dealer to have them install it easily I am sure because the guy said it would only take 1/2 hour to do the job. It will be 45 bucks he said but with all these funny little things I am starting to wonder.
ANY HELP BEFORE I GIVE UP????
Oh... I lied. I totally lied. I forgot it's part of the convenience centre on the pre-2000's.... so it's actually inside the convenience centre... which is up behind the dash, on the passenger side... A-pillar. Kinda behind the glove box.
On 2000-05 cars, it's taped to the steering column wiring.... not 98 tho.

I am having some trouble getting the dash off to unplug the airbag. I can't think of any other way to get to the convenience center. Is there an easier way to get to the conveniece center than to pull the top of the dash off? Maybe I can get past the heater, will let you know.
That is a strange place to put that but at least now I can see what I can do. I will let you know how that goes!
I went up beside the glovebox and there it was! I thought I was losing my mind after all the places I looked. I didn't have to take off the dash!
thanks!
99% percent of the time when the horns dont work on j's its behind the airbag the spring thing coms lose or out of place.. pop off the airbag on the steering wheel and realign the spring/wires happen to both of my cavs
I'm also going to have to troubleshoot my horn in the next week or so, this thread should come in handy!
15.3 @ 89.97mph, 14's on the way?
honk ur horn.. listen if u hear a click in the pass. side of dash thats the relay- which is good its the spring behind the air bag thats messed up if u dont hear the click..
or, just grab a friend, unplug the connector at the horn and test for power while he hits the button. also test for ground while you're there. make sure you're working on the bad side of the circuit before you start ripping everything apart. idk where the horn is grounded to tell you the truth so idk how common it is for the ground to be a problem but that's where i would start. no reason to dig through the dash only to find out you're lookin on the wrong side. also check it for corrosion. i know my horn is in the right front close to the ground. seems like an easy place for corrosion to mess up a connection. good luck with the troubleshooting. once i get my new steering wheel back on i'll eventually have to check out why my horn isn't working either lol who even uses those things?
