Sirius and Speakers?!?

Okay, I've got an Alpine IVA-D300 Head Unit, with the Sirius Tuner, Infinity 6.5" Componenet speakers, Infinity 10" Subwoofer, and Infinity 6 Channel Amplifer, including a Clarion Equalizer.

The problem I'm having is that the speakers distort, but only the tweeters, it sounds like they are crackling. It's very weird.

I have the head unit set so no equalizer setting is active, it is giving a flat signal. The amp is set to mid-range frequencies. The equalizer is setto give me good sound. Does anyone have any good stereo tuning tips, keeping in mind the equalizer, amp, and head unit.

Does it sound good when playing a CD? If it does, Sirius is your problem. They have a low quality bitrate, lower then XM's.

it only started doing this when I started using my sirius, but it now does the same thing with CD's too.

I would try removing the sirus tuner. If it still distors, check the amps and HU.

the tuner itself COULD be bad...but dont let the XM people bad-mouth sirius....ive had it for 2 years with various hardware, and ive also had XM...both have zero problems with their sound feeds.

standard troubleshooting process applies...remove one variable at a time while keeping everything else constant....good luck...if i can be of help, shoot me an email!

the noise sounds like the tweeter's are getting too much mid-range frequency and that is causing them to distort. It only happens on two of the four speakers, one in the front and one in the rear, on opposite sides of the truck. I am so confused, I don't know what else to try.

Maybe the crossovers are bad on the tweets? dunno...

I guess it could be the crossover's but, I did try them on other speakers.....I will have to try it again (AMEN TO VACATION THIS WEEK), I'm wondering if the tweeter's themselves are blown.

it really does, but I got the time, and I kinda like doing it, so no worries. But I know what you mean. The only way it gets worse, is having to fix someone else's car on your vacation

thats true...that would suck more.

i def enjoy working on my car...but i would have rather been @ six flags, on a huge ass roller coaster with my girlfriend than balls deep reeking of coolant with my mother yelling at me for taking too long...dear god thats a long story
