New Fronts?

Heyy guys, so listen, I've got an '02 Z24 with the "premium sound system" (read: amplified 6x9's at back). Now, when I crank the fade all the way to the rear, the sound is decent. I like it. Nothing special, but at least it doesnt sound like a screaming, dying banshee. The front speakers, you see, aren't anywhere near as friendly to my ears. With the fade cranked all the way to the front, the sound is terrible. Wayy too much treble, and very tinny sounding. The front speakers in my dad's '87 S-10 sound better. And thats depressing. So now I'm looking to replace the bad-boys, but with what? I can't afford to amplify them or anything, I was just thinking of ripping the crappy stock ones out and sticking in some half-decent Pioneers or something from Best Buy... will these sound better? They dont need to sound incredible, maybe just on par with the amplified read speakers? 2-voice or 3-voice? Any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks guys... J-Body FOREVER!!!

save your money, and wait till you can amplify them. any speakers running off the deck's wattage will sound pretty crappy compared to an amplified one. get yourself a 6.5" component set...and amplify it. you'll be glad you saved and did it the right way, the first time.

i bought 3-way pioneer 4x6's...and the sound blows donkey balls. when i get the component set that i THINK im getting for x-mas...ill sell them to you for cheap if you still want a pair. i still have the box and everything.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I really don't feel like dropping that kinda cash into my car and I don't have the time to do the work myself... just swapping out the front speakers should improve my sound enough to at least not annoy me, and itll save me a few hundred bucks in the mix. I was thinking of 2-way 4x6's since they would be a direct replacement for the ones in the door already. i dont want any bass coming out of my front doors either so i figure 2-way is the way to go... good idea?

I bought some Pioneer 3-way 4x6 speakers for $50 and I hate myself for it, I want some 6.5s now. I bought these Pioneer TS-A4670R . I know you are ona budget but really, go with some amped 6.5s and you will love it. You can set a High Pass Fliter on them from the amp and keep most of the bass out of them.

One a budget system coaxial 6.5" speakers from pioneer usually get the job done pretty well.

I would opt for the 6 1/2's up front as well.

Alright guys, thanks, I'll buy myself some 6.5" for the front... how will fitting work? Will I have to build custom mounts?

And the back speakers on the premium sound system sound decent, but would a better set of 6x9s be worth it price-wise?

Alright, I found this site which will set me up perfectly for the 6.5" install, now its only a matter of what type of 6.5" I install. 2-way, 3-way, or 4-way (wtf is 4-way?!)... and if I do decide to get new 6x9's for the rear, do I need any specific type of 6x9, since they will be attatched to the stock amp? Any idea on how the stock amp is wired to the rear speakers? or even where the amp is located? so clueless, but I need my Z to have some decent sound in her!

Good choice, as for fitting the speakers in the doors, try this. I am sure that you can get them cheaper somewhere but here is the product you should get for some good looks and quality.CarDomain
