the other day i was listening to my subs and i had them pounding pretty good when in the middle of a song they went quite. they still bump but not at all loud and the sound is a little crappy. what could be the problem? did i blow them? i have 2 1000 watt subs and a 1600 watt amp so they werent over powered. any ideas?
Check all your connections, might even be a bad ground. I know my subs do that every once ina blue moon and its the rcac that came slightly unplugged. Also, check your fuses to make sure you havent blown any of them.
make sure your tinsel leads are sturdy.
my guess would be one of the RCA's came loose.
Do you check the amps when this happens?
Iv seen lots of subs as well as door speakers if they are ran by an external amp do this when the amp gets hot...
Best pic I can find, it's the red and green wires.
Basically they connect the subs + and - to the + and - on the voice coil.
ok so i disconected the power and now everytime i switch the amp on it goes straight into protect mode.. im confused
What kind of amp?
It might be going into protection mode because there is a short. Check what I mentioned above.
How did you set your gains, crossover and bass boost. Its possible that incorrect settings caused damage to the amplifier.

i fried three amps within a month because of incorrect settings, and after about 10 hours of play they would go into protect mode and never work again, thank god for warrenty now i know what i was dong wrong and wont do it again. if you get it working again or get a new one search for the post on this site about how to properly set gain. also ccheck to make sure you are wred right, some amps will work at a lower ohm rating than listed but will quit after a while. i know from experience on that one but in the end it cost more. good luck.
i had the bass boost about 3/4 of the way up and the rest all the way. think it was too much for the amp?
You mean you turned the bass boost up AFTER setting the gains? If so, yeah that will blow it.
no i had them all set before i turned the system on
Jesus that's scary. That's too much for everything, and I bet you cooked your subs. We have stickies n'at on this site to keep you from cooking your stuff.
maybe....i have 2 15" power acoustik FUBR's and a 1920 PA amp and just check ground i have a remote on my bass boost and i have the bass all the way down on the HU but when i turn it up its justs sounds like crap and ive never fried an amp. Settings are up to the audio enthusiast but matching your ohms and especially the constant power rating (RMS) is important)
for example my subs each are dual 4ohm and my amp is 2ohm stable...so dont runa low ohm pattern than your system requires if will melt your amp. Many internet diagrams will show you the proper way of wiring and make sure you are running the right size of power and ground leads i run 2 AWG but soon 0/1 AWG for my monster 3000 watt mono.....lol
set the example, never let the example set you.
Settings are up to the enthusiast...To a point yes, but setting your gains too high will clip the signal and slaughter up your coils and wreck the speaker and possibly the amp. 3/4 bass boost with maxed gain and ... whatever the other setting is, probably the LPF...isn't good for anything because i highly doubt your headunits pre-out voltage is that low. I ususally keep my bass boost down at 0dB's because on every amp I've had it just bumps up the output at a given frequency and makes music sound crappy. The gain should be tuned to match the preout voltage to the amplifiers needs. It isn't a volume knob like many believe. Read the sticky by lanman at the top of this page, it will help you set your gains next time around.

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
LOL
well i just hooked up a different amp i had laying in my basement and i figured out one of my subs is blown and the amp is fried. thanks for the input though guys
