depends on the angle of the speaker, the angle affects the sound stage, so really it doesnt matter as long as you get your angles right and it sounds good to you.

componets in the kickpanels are father from your ear. the farther from your ear the speakers are the closer the pathlength the speaker to your ear will be. the more you get closer to equal pathlengths for each speaker the better soundstage you will have. for instance. say your speakers are in the dash. left speakers is 24" from your ear. right speakers is 48" the diffrence is 24" now say they are in kicks, left speaker is 40" and the right speaker is 52" your diffrence is now only 12" so left and right are going to be allot closer to being accurate. and listening to a system with a decent soundstage and listening to a system with no soundstage is like night and day. to be able to sit there and close your eyes if you wanted and be able to point to each individual musician on stage is really great, to be able to listen to mucic and pinpoint how the bassist is left of center on the stage and a few feet behind the vocalist brings a whole new wave of realism to the music. even half assed kickpods can usually sound better then door mounted speakers. though the more time you spend aiming your speakers when yoru building the kickpods, the better the outcome will be. doors can sound good with some work but with the majority of speakers you cant get enough angle unless you rebuild the doors themselves or use a good off axis speaker, and even then your pathlenth is still and issue and your left and right is compromised. im going so far as to pull my midbass drivers out of the door and mount them on the floor to get all my speakers out of the door.

only bad thing about that, is you are going to screw your passenger over if you delay it for the driver.

Screw them. They didn't buy the car/stereo

Most passengers wouldn't notice the difference anyways. Just make sure none of you ever get in each other's car.

most SQ comps...have two judges sitting in the car.

See, I did not know about the second judge. Though I'm glad you said this, as I'm considering joining and competing in USACI in the future.

you'd be surprised, allot of passengers would notice because youd be using heavy delay to make up that large a pathlength diffrence, and at higher power levels your passenger side would drown out allot of the drivers side and it would sound like something was missing in the music. ive been in some full sized trucks and even without time delay the diffrence was so far it just sounded like he had one speaker in the right door and that was it. youlle be going my system sounds great and all your friends will be leaving yoru car going that kid is nuts his car sounded like ass lol.

not sure how usaci is doing it now most of the times it was one judge and some times it was two judges and at finals its two judges. i made the mistake once if making the soundstage driverside biased and then they had two judges and i got hammered. learned not to do that again.
