Reverse lights not working

Well once again title says it all. A while back when I put in my clutch and flywheel in my reverse light decided to quit working. I checked the bulbs they are ok. Is there a chance I forgot to connect something? I double checked everything, and it's all in the right place. Has anyone else had this problem when doing transmision work?

Remember: You don't just cuddle with Max Power, your strap yourself in and prepare for the G's!

Could it be the switch? Get yer multimeter out and start troubleshooting.

Easiest way to access back-up lamp switch is through left wheel well (with tire off). You will be able to see if it's connected or not. If it is connected try disconnecting and jumping the two terminals together. If your reverse lights come on(key on and in reverse), replace the switch. Back up lamp switch failure is pretty common.

I myself have an 04 Cavalier and about 3 months ago my back up lights quit working as well. On a car with only 14k mi on it, is this problem even worth fixing if it's going to break that commonly?

Yep and it's normallly the switch.

Went through 2 of them on my '01.

Odd I am still using the origional switch from my 00 on my 02 and this is going to be at least the 5th trans it has been in. Probably the switch, unless you had some wires misrouted.

Thanks Vince, I'll see what I can do about getting it repaired. I was mostly worried about the cost.

Right now I'm having this same problem, every time I put my car in reverse the lights wont work unless I push the shifter forward. Could this be the switch?. Is the switch location the same for 5 speed and auto?
