So I have these problems:
1. My dome light only comes on when I open 1 door.. the other door it doesn't come on when its open..
2. The odometer lighting doesnt light up making it near impossible to see the mileage anymore.
3. The backlighting for my hvac stopped coming on after I took it out to get at my rca wires easier when installing a new deck.
4. Sometimes at random the car will seem to start really hard.. like It sounds almost as though it doesn't want to start or is about to stall but then it starts up or sometimes I have to turn the key twice for it to start..
Does anyone have any solutions for these problems? and by the way I drive a 2002 Cavy coupe VL 5spd (Canadian car)
*Not a problem but just a question
I want to switch to a 00+ instrument cluster and I was just wondering if where I'm going from a cluster without a tach to one with a tach if the tach will work too... I know I've searched and read on here and I know that the 00+ clusters are all direct swaps but I was just looking for some clarification on going from one with no tach to one with a tach..
Thanks

1 you have a broke door pin
2 hit the dash
3 check and see if you pulled something loose
4 i dunno mine does it too.
1. best guess is to check the wiring all the way though after checking the door pin.
2. Hitting the dash is the #1 way to fix this. I'm guessing the backlight went out right after you took apart the dash or something? just smack on the dash area above the cluster.
3. Forget to hook anything up? Take it out, inspect the wiring, open it up, make sure the bulbs/LEDS(if you have them) are seated still.
4. It's a cavalier, ofcorse it's going to have to stress to start (not bashing the cavys, just stating a fact), main reason for any car to have trouble starting is because it's cold, other than that, it's just many fluke things happening at random moments to make it stress more than usual to start.
Okay ignore the response above, here are some real ones....
#1 door switch stuck open, wiring disconnected someplace.
#2 dont hit the dash, it may crack the plstic, I do believe that is a seperate bulb behind it, replace the bulb
#3 pretty obvious you messed that one up
#4 lots of things, faulty ECT sensor comes to mind first off, and secondly a fuel filter partially plugged, will cause this because it doesnt have the correct pressure to start the vehicle because the filter is so plugged up, it takes a few cranks to get enough
I always start with the fuel filter if I get stuck with a job like that at work

x2 on the no dash hitting thing. It could be just a loose wire.. Thats what happened to my car. My dad used it the other day since his is in the shop and he had to drive on the shoulder of the highway to pass up construction, and he drove over those things that wake u up when u drift off to the side of the highway and like magic, the lights came on. Still gonna pull the cluster out when i go back to the states, but maybe its just a loose wire or connecter somewhere.
Ignore Rob's response, here's a really real response, the realest of them all mang.

1. Unless you're tugging and yanking stuff in a next to impossible area, you're going to have either a stuck or broken door pin.
2. Definitely hit the dash - 9 times out of 10 it DOES work.
3. Self-explanitory, I think Nate did an excellent job on that one.
4. Nate's does it, mine does it, could be a number of things; temperature, how long it sat since it was last started, how much I had to eat last nite, how much I had to drink last nite, and of course the velocity of a rubber chicken.
Your cluster question - just plug it in and go. If it's a 2000+ cluster with tach, it'll work just fine for ya.
well thanks for the info about those things.. i'm a little skeptical about the hitting the dash thing but if it works it works i guess and thanks alot about the cluster thing now i'll know i can just switch them out.. thanks guys
