i can do 2.5 of the 3 haha. can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to get to the cable running off of the alternator. I tried but can not get my hand in there any way? I have a 99 sunfire GT. any help would be much appreciated. Thanx. Nick
might have to take some stuff off first, or try reaching it from underneath

just take the alt. out and do it...I had to
do the HO mani swap
it makes it a LOT easier.
2.4 altornator is a pain in the a** to work on.
On my ECO, I removed the alt and then added the bigger wire.
well hat just sucks. atleats its nice out now so i can do it if i ever get a day off from work haha which is where i am rite now insteadof outside. oh well. thanx all gess i will hafta take a bunch or c%$p off to get at it
Dont take anything off except the alternator. Everything else can stay. Just turn the belt tensioner counter clockwise with a long wrench to take tension off the belt. the belt will then come right off the pully. After that you just have 3 bolts to remove. look at diagram.... Bolt number 1 is easy, just use wratchet and 6" extension. I believe bolts are 13mm...or close...? bolt number 2 is simple too, remove with wratchet again and extension. Add your ground wire to this when you are reinstalling the alt. and bolt 3 is kinda tricky, Its located down between the 2 runners on your intake manifold. I used a wratchet > 6" extension > elbow > 6" entension > 13mm bit....tape them all together so they dont fall apart on you. You dont have to take this bolt all the way out, just loosen it a little bit. Then you can just slide the alt to the left a little and you will see a plug, just disconnect that. Then you will see a wire connected to the alt, just add your new wire to this same location, you dont even have to take the alt all the way out of the car. Reinstall everything reverse of how you took it off and you golden, dont forget to put the plug back on (I forgot this but was able to plug it in even with the alt installed again. and dont forget to add your ground wire to bolt #2. Really this write up might make it sound hard, but its simple. I just did it for my big 3. it was my first time taking an alt out and i did it with no problem. Just hit me up on AIM if you have any questions. z2fst4u24 is my username....
Sry, that image seems to be a lil F***d up at the moment.
sweet thanx man. i knwo its not hard and thats even easier then i thought. i'm kinda mechanical because of the car i ad befor lol. but the diagram is good and easy to follow and you wrtie up didn't make it seem hard at all. thanx again. and maby if a mod is good enough they can put the pic in a new topic and sticky it so other newbies to j-bodies liek me know where they are oon the 2.4s, seeing as the 2.2's are easy to take on off(atleats form what i've seen) but who wnats easy that takes the fun out of evertything. if i wnated easy i woudl have bought a civic wheres theres parts every which way
i'm kiddin everyone l8er man and thanx again
They need to bleep out words like "civic" or "honda" on this site like they do swear words, lol. No problem though man, and good luck!
Wow, I would kill to have my alternator right there...Damn DSM alternator hidden behind the engine and under some crap and over other crap. I shoulda kept my cav
