I'm just going to keep this question short.
would it be possible to wire in a 2000-2002 BCM to only send the passlock protocols to a PCM using the existing passlock parts in a 97 sunfire (less cluster)?
it might be possible, but the bcm might look for other stuff connected as well.
Only thing I can think of is the ABS module through the Class 2 wire...
I'd either bypass the passlock or keep the cluster hooked up and hide it.
I would think the BCM thing would be too much pita to be worth it.

Can't and can't.
Research has indicated that the 3400 PCM can't be flashed to remove the Passlock (however if I'm wrong, I'd be more than happy to know what exactly is needed to remove it), but a 2000-2002 J BCM will communicate with the 3400 PCM to provide the key for the Passlock.
Also the cluster I have doesn't remotely send the proper signal to the PCM to allow the car to run (class 1 wiring vs class 2).
So all I need is the few wires that are needed for the BCM to make the PCM think everything is okie dokie.
Regardless, I have more time and more wires to play with anyhow

I've got a lead for ya. I emailed um so I'll let ya know what they say.

if you need to, you can totally bypass the passlock.
You can bypass the Passlock on a car that's relatively stock... unfortunately, I don't think Rob's car fits that description.
To bypass Passlock, you need to have the car running first.

No, that it doesn't.
Actually, my forum flooding of this question did yield one answer that seems promising using a 99+ GAM BCM. (60*v6 -- this one was the least helpful... I'd have to repin the entire harness if i were to use a 98 3.1 PCM, aleromod, fullthrottlev6, yahoo answers, e-mails to PCM tuners, a PM to the dude that did an eco swap in a 97 cav)
As it turns out, it was
FTW. Joe Macholowski (or however its spelled) -- he mainly hangs out in the third gen forum provided this info.

Here is what I show to hook up the passlock, they might be called a little different names but im sure they are the same.
All grand am stuff, ending is the circuit # (XXXX)
C1 plug
A8-Ignition 0 voltage, ppl, to 10a fuse hot in acc, on or start. goes to pin b9 left IP fuse block grand am (1600)
B8-battery pos voltage, brn , to 10a fuse hot in run, goes to rt ip fuse block grand am(341)
C2 plug
A6-security sensor low, blk, (passlock gnd) pin b of passlock cylinder(1835)
B6-security systen sensor signal, yel, (passlock signal) pin b of passlock cylinder(1836)
B9-ignition 3 voltage, pink, to 10a fuse hot in on or start, goes to underhood fuse block, C4plug, C3pin(439)
C3 plug
A10-Ground, blk/wht, rounded at the left side of the dash, ground # G202 (151)
A12-Battery positive voltage, org, 10a fuse hot all times, rt ip fuse block grand am(340)
B1-battery fuse voltage, org, 10a fuse hot all times left Ip fuse block ga(1540)
B2-class 2 serial, ppl, to computer data lines. (attach it any where in the data system)(1807)
B4-security system sensor supply voltage, wht, (passlock b+) to pin c of passlock cylinder(1459)
You may need to hook up pin b12 of c2, lt green, its key in ig sw signal. I dont know exactly where it goes, all it says is to warning system circuit (80). I think its intergrated into the ignition switch on the J's if I can remember right.
I know pin B is listed twice, but the wire colors are there, and that's all that matters

I'm more than anxious to get this project done
