i HATE these kinds of questions. Mainly because people ask for recomendations without being detailed on what they are trying to get.
Read this:

and then re-ask the question.

ok then simply put:
1. I was given a Sony Xplod 1200W amp, is this good or should i upgrade to something more powerful?
2. I am looking for the biggest thump for cheapest (rattling the mirrors, massage as i drive kinda thing, people hear me coming)
3. Recomended speakers + box + amp for this i have a 1999 sunfire 4dr, want the box in the trunk
At this point, do not care about 6x9's and other speakers just bass for now
uhg... it's kids like you that piss off neighbors like me.
ANYWHO...
if loud bass without reguards to sound quality is all you are trying to acheive, then I would suggest looking into Kicker or DD... I don't know what your budget is, but if you find the RMS rating of the amp, it will be easier to recomend something. For your situation, I would say a sub that performs it's best ported(kicker subs for example), in a ported box, tuned high(40-45 hz)....
without a budget, it's hard to say realy. And especialy without knowing the real output of the amp, not the crap they print on the cover of it.

i had the 1200 sony explode amp with my 2 12" power acoustik fubar subs and it hit pretty hard and those subs are only around 100$ a piece on the web shipped and when i had the sony i had a sealed box that i made, but any old box should work as long as its sealed.

any old box should work as long as its sealed...?!?!?!?!
i give up... i just plain give up on this forum.
meet me on HTF, CAF, or CA.com.... screw people giving rediculous advice and acting like it's facts...
AN ENCLOSURE SHOULD BE BUILT OUT OF QUALITY MATERIALS, AND TO THE SPECS OF THE SUBS IT WILL HOUSE..
thats my last post trying to help someone when all this forum ever gets is 3-4 smart people who keep quiet most of the time, and a boat load of moronic answers.

Took you long enough.
I can't believe I just posted on this forum.

Lol, there are a LOT of retards out there that will say anything out there because they think they know it all. The least they can do is add to their sentences that it's to their experiences or that they "THINK" it will work...etc. Don't state a fact unless it is really a fact. They should put that in the forum rules. But the simplest sollution is if you don't know the answer, let someone else who knows answer, and learn from them. And don't forget the search button, 99% of the time all questions can be answered in an older forum by a simple search.
And yea, like JLAudioCavalier said, Kicker is known for volume (SPL "sound pressure level"). I can't give any recomendations on any of their subs since I've never heard any, but I can vouch that their amps kick a$$. And yea sony is good, but for just a bit more in cost, there are a hell of a lot better. Your subs are in your trunk, people cannot hear you comming unless you open your trunk. They are actually pretty sound proof, only thing people will be able to hear is a LOT of trunk rattling. A co-worker of mine has a 1200 Watt amp and heavy subs to match (all offbrand equipment), and you can't hear crap outside his car, just trunk rattle. And he doesn't even have any dynamat or sound dampening. Aside from that, anything will rattle your mirrors, and it gets annoying too since it makes sound when it rattles, the massage while you drive can be simulated with a seat massaging pad, works wonders. Seriously, you're really looking at anything out there above 50 watts, and that I can vouch for as my personal experience.
Second, my advise to you is to grab a PORTED box for LOUDNESS, and a SEALED box for QUALITY. That is a general rule of thumb. When you find your subs, look at the specs and see what size box it recommends for the corrosponding (spelling?) box type. From what I've seen, sealed boxes can get pretty big. Do a search on the type of boxes and you'll see how there's a difference. Aside from all that, 1200 Watts is a good place to start, most people I know have their wattage in the 1000's range, mine personally is 400 and it's loud enough for my needs. If you like your 1200 watt sony amp, then keep it. As for subs, I'd stick with Kicker since you want loudness (SPL) in a ported box, again like what JLAudioCavalier said.
you guy most likely do not remember these but bass shakers. i don't remember who they are made buy . but they hook to a amp and shake seat windows rear views etc with no sound pressure level if you want a massage get those if you want spl get subs all you need is 6x9 and bass shakers it was once said talk about the stupidest think ever made. stupid stuff and people.

they still around i remember when they first came out back in 97-98 some were back then
i do believe aura went under. Used to see those things on ubid and ebay super cheap. would be pretty cool for a home theater setup.
how can i get the sound (bass sound) outside and dampen the trunk rattle then?
Why would you want the bass outside?
Mike Roth
hear and feel the bass outside, show it off
for some reason ppl dont understand that it doesnt matter, so might as well go for loud in and out
sound does travel bass travels better then treble mostly under water. god i hate science any ways bass travels because it disturbers the air like the vibration of vocal cords in you throat etc... but once it is deadened so much you will not heard it out side the car like stop the flexing of the trunk lid

lol dude does that mean we dont have to listen to your rants and raves anymore?? thank god!!!!
personally if I got something for free I would use it until it goes bad which means with sony i would give it about 6 months (with the way you are thinking about using it) and save your money during that time to research many other amps and subs and find out what you like best
as long as my rants and raves come from personal experience and knowledge, you will have to listen to them whether you like it or not. im sick of people giving bad or wrong information as if it is fact. and i try and help people, get over it.

Wattage isnt everything, especially considering the fact most ppl misread it to start with. Just because an amp says 1000w on it doesnt mean it is, the RMS is usually considerably lower and cheaper companies rate thier amps at an insane signal to noise ratio. In other words yea its 1000w with so much distortion it isnt worth having.
Or just because a sub has 1200 written on the cone that doesnt mean you can throw that much to it. Most ppl just read the peak power number which is a meaningless spec
As far as audio stay clear of Sony, Pioneer is a much better brand. Pioneer has some cheap stuff that isnt that good, pretty much the kinda stuff walmart sells. They also have some killer value subs, the SPL3002s and SPL3004s are amazing subs, great pieces
As mentioned some kicker comp stuff is in the same price range and they deliver alot of boom for the money. But given the choice between Sony and Pioneer its a no brainer Pioneer all the way.

Peak power isn't entirely useless. It tells how powerful a 'burp' will be.

totally correct there some 50 x2 watt amps play better then some 300x2 it just depends on their power output and how clean and good it is as for sony i own 2 -10 and will never buy them again.one the plastic around the speaker breaks there worthless because you can not use grill covers because of the odd bolt patterns. plus and big plus they have no ported box that is good for them subs this is why the recommend enclosure is sealed go figure. talk about some crap this is why i bought rockford fosgate p1's and infinity kappa perfects 10's and am thinking about some directed 12 exstream subs any ways enough about the sonys
