Another Thread For Ground Loop Noise (help!)

I have a 98 Z24. It came with GM's Stock CD Player. POS. So I replaced it with an Eclipse CD8443. I also added an Alpine MRV-T407.My problem is I have this static noise even when the car is shut off. It dosn't get worse when the car's on, and it even does it when the players on pause. I've done some reading and I think my problem is I have my power wire running right beside my RCA cables. I'm not 100% sure of that thought. Could it be a bad ground? I know there are at least 3 on my vehicle. One on the amp, and 2 on the CD Player. Just to simplify things so I didn't go chasing ground wire leads all over the place I thought maybe somebody would know which of the possibilities is most likely.

Start there, move your rca cables and check your grounds.

make sure all connections are solid, make sure ground is on bare metal tightly secured.

the rca next to power wire thing, with a decent set of rca's is less of a possibility than people might think.... but check that as well. doesn't hurt to try...

again, make sure EVERY connection is secure. it's possibly a bad set of RCA cables as well.

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

Thanks, BTW any suggestions on what kind or brand of RCA cable I should go with if I decide to replace them. The ones I have are kind of cheap so I thought about replacing them wether theyre the problem of not. Is Streetwires an OK brand?

streetwires has some quality wires.

one thing i personaly prefer is anything holding the Esoteric name (streetiwres falls into this catagory)

go to caraudioforum.com and to the used for sale section. there is a guy cleaning out an audio shop of his selling a ton of wires and accessories

its beyond me why monster hasn't gotten into the street game. They make some pretty high end stuff for home that resist EMFs all day long, why not make something that would be long enough to use in a car as well. I have seen nothing but junk for cars for years. Even the "good stuff" seems like crap. Correct me if I am wrong. I mean, a car is a much more hostile environment than the back of a stereo rack in a house...

please... someone have a light to shed? If not, thats fine, I don't do the whole stereo thing anymore. I have the stock deck and two blown kenwoods for 1998 kickin it in my cav.

take a piece of bare wire - wrap it around the outside of the rca's in the back of your deck, and ground it to the chassis. then slide your rca's on - see what that does for you.

i have a good feeling your amps turned up to high, if it had anything to do with the ground or engine noise it would happen or get worse with the car on. the only time i ever seen that noise with the car off and on pause is when the gain on the amp was to high or something like that.

feel sorry for you owning that car was looking at a gold convertible last night a 98 z24 with the 2.4 liter for 1500 worst part is the car is worth about 3000-4000 with 102000 miles on it and the freaking water pump went out on it which is over 1000 dollars to take in and have done because you got to remove the timing chain etc... along with the header to get out the stupid pump out only problem is it a 80 dollar pump and 30 in gaskets but there is no telling how long his daughter drove on it before he put it up for sale so it could have a bad head on it now any ways if any one want the guys number i can dig up the site for ya oh ya sorry for being so off topic on this one.
