alpine or jbl.

Hello, i am debating between what to get. i know i want one 10 inch. both of these companies have good reps and have similar prices. So should i go with a 10 alpine type r dual 4 ohm or a 10 jbl power series dual 4 ohm. also im going with a mono amp and if u do decide to over power the rms rating how much is too much or would u better off just going for exactly what they need. thanks for any of the help. and it is also going into a 2003 cavalier coupe. thanks again.

i hope this chart i am putting up come out. because the only place i can find it is in a book so far. the spl on the 12 inch type r's is about 85 so i use 85 if the 10 inch type r is less then the total spl peak is less any way i compare it to 12 inch infinity reference's and jbl 10's that have the higher spl or db's at 1 watt 1 meter. thos type r's tend to be more of a sound quality speaker then the jbl or infinitys although some infintys and jbls are sql speakers just think of what i am saying the chart i am putting up only went to 4096 watts and any think over 1000 watts is just a waste of money if you think about what i am saying when looking at this chart any ways when putting any sub in any box this can change the out put of the sub so in stead of it being 93 spl it could be 88 or even 100 just though i would tell ya any ways here is that chart

93 spl --1 watt-- 85 spl
96 spl -- 2 watt-- 88 spl
99 spl-- 4 watt-- 91 spl
102 spl-- 8 watt --94 spl
105 spl-- 16 watt-- 97 spl
108 spl-- 32 watt-- 100 spl
111spl-- 64 watt --103 spl
114 spl --128 watt-- 106 spl
117spl --256 watt-- 109 spl
120 spl-- 512 watt-- 112 spl
123spl --1024 watt --115 spl
126 spl ---2048 watt ---118 spl
129 spl--- 4096 watt ---121 spl

this chart is no accurate to say it is what you will put out the only way to see is find some one with a term lab mic any ways i hop it come out

iv got an all alpine system and will never go back to another company. sounds amazing. type x subs with pdx1000 amps. the type r's are really nice tho. if you have the money, do a big amp with it and put er in a small sealed box.

i hope all your audio equipment gets stolen by some chump who hears your crap music a couple cars over at a light because you feel like showing off your UbEr SweEr Subzors yO!

hopefully you learn to listen to music for your own enjoyment, and maybe enter comps if you want to be loud, but no one else at a stop light gives a crap what you are listening to and doesnt want or need to hear it.

im offering no further advice this time around. just grow up and stay out of my towns.

well thanks man. well i probably plan on entering comps so of course u gonna hear it. but i live in a small town where nothing happens. and i dont care if other people like my music cause every one does it at stoplights if u have a half way nice system. i think your kinda of retarded, y upgrade your audio system if u arent going to use it. cause if u just want to play music at a normal lvl y upgrade to better speakers. i can see for sq but stock speakers have good sq at normal music playing. Anyways if u are upgrading your sound system then it is made to be playing loud.

not necessarily meant to be played loud at all times. For one it can damage your hearing, two it just screams steal me, and three its just rude to do to other people. not saying I dont let the volume rip at a stoplight occasionally but its only done to prove to homey g gang banger that he isnt the only one with bumps. Forcing your tastes on other people is not a cool thing. Like when your grandparents made you listen to barry manilow in the car. plus im sure banging out to some hate rock or gangsta rap at a light is not exactly something you want to force small children to listen to. Be sensical about it. Sound deaden your car and windows up let it rip. if done correctly you can listen to it as loud as you want with hardly anyone else hearing it. Unless of course you are loud enough to make the doors flap

It is called respect. Something you clearly do not have for your nieghbors or people around you in traffic. And also something I will never have for kids like you. It's beyond immature and disrespectful to say "I don't care of no one liks my music, everyone does it". Are you seriously that inconsiderate and all around moronic?

Why upgrade your stereo? To get clearer, cleaner, more real to life music the was it was meant to be listened to. You can turn your music up to a sensable level with your windows up, riding down the freeway, on back roads. But why do it ALL THE TIME? In residential neighborhoods? Late at night? At stop lights with your windows down? That is simply trying to show off. And it won't work. Those looks you get aren't "wow look at this cool kid with his bumpin tunes". Those looks are "look at this stupid kid thinking we give a shlt what his music sounds like."

Is it that hard to have some respect for others? It's sad when a 21 year old is thinking "the way some people raise their kids these days". And that is exactly what is going through my mind when kids like you talk like the world owes you something, and you don't owe anyone an ounce of respect.

^ i agree with you to a certain point. But then again dont we all get the urge now and then? I dont have my system in my car yet (new cavalier) but when I did have it, it was by far the loudest thing in my town. (small town, and the setup wasnt all that powerful, was going to be upgraded). I used to have a "beater" system, where id pound the hell out of it for no reason.

Since I upgraded to better products and better workmanship on everything, and had an all around better system, I stopped the senceless "street wanging". Once in a while I get the urge to however, mostly when theres somene near me thats got something playing that I can hear distorting and what not, THEN I like to show them "whats up" lol

I do think its stupid and not to mention harmful to go around blaring music all the time, there is a time and place for it. Id simply llike to think that you DO do it once in a while, as we all do.. you dont get an urge? ever?

hell i usually dont like turning it up to show it to friends that havent seen it, let alone do it on a street.... Just a thought.

Sorry I cant contribute to the topic, but good luck with the build

Well. Pretty much I built my stereo for me and me only. I mod my car for me and me only. If someone doesn't see my stuff, hear my stuff, or even know it's there, Im ok with that. I like my music loud on occasion. But at a stop light it goes down, in residential neighborhoods it is down, and any time of the day or night that is probably not appropriate, it goes down. Sure, we all get the urge to have loud music. But my urge to turn it up comes from me loving music and loving to hear is loud and clear. Not to show someone "whats up" or to show off ever. just think... the more you show off, the more people know you have expensive equipment in your car.

Not to thread jack but in reading all that you've posted in this thread it kinda makes me think about all the blasting around I do.. you make a very good point and I respect that. Next time i'm gonna think twice about having my music up so damn loud all the time...

But back on topic I say go with alpine for sure I'm only running a pair of 12's of the type e line but I am very very impressed with thier performance so I can only imagine how good the higher up models are.

Agreed, I dont do it so much anymore, just once in a while as well... and its been a long time since ive done anything like that because I had someone next to me with a system playing.

I do think about the fact that a lot of people would know theres equipment in my car, then again, its all in a seat delete right now, so the window would tell all just as easy! haha

Part of me quieting down is maturity as well i think... just plain not too excited about it anymore, sometimes, but the clarity of it is amazing and I DO love that!

Alpine Type R is a great sub, Type X is even better but its double the price, Type S is weaksauce

simply put, but the man speaks the truth... type R is a great all around budget minded sub, type x is a GREAT performing sub... type S is getting kinda "meh, poopy"....

and like i said, any other brands you could consider? what is your total price range? you could have something even better than what you are currently considering if you fill in these blanks

sorry elf that i know what im talking about sometime and try and help people.,... im not trying to act better than anyone. i just simply hate misinformation and immaturity.... BUT also, since you mentioned Kicker... yeah... if all out loudness is your thing, go ahead and look into kicker. JL is definately NOT a way i would steer someone, looking for a good sub to get loud on a budget.
