sub problem..?
Saturday, July 07, 2007 3:00 PM
Sup, I have two older kicker CVR12's 4ohm... Originally they were in a sealed box wired in series. This weekend I decided to make a ported box... now after all that work I take the subs out of the sealed box and put them in the ported one. Now when I went to try them they both were hitting and then one just stopped...! huh? No crack, no noise period. I rechecked the wiring to the amp/box/inside the box. I dont get nothing! So I took it out completely and went to my room to try in on my stereo. It does nothing! So then I tryed wiring it in parallel and it started but sounds garggled. I can wire it other ways but just not in series...???? They worked great like that for a while. All of a sudden they just stop from transfering and a less than 1 min test. Also there 4 ohm each. And if they were in series the whole time...thats how I got them....there at 8ohms thogether?? I wasnt ever pushing them hard if thats the case. HElp!!!! Thanks.

also someone clear this up. A dual 4ohm sub can be wired to 2ohm or 8ohms? 2ohm - parallel // 8ohm - series? Two 4ohm subs wired in series gives __ohm..? And two 4ohms wired in parallel gives __ohms? Thanks.

i'm thinking 2 4 ohm subs wired in parallel are 2 ohm.. whichever one that you wire the 2 + together and the 2 - together to form just 1+ and 1-

^^ using a mono amp or 2ch? both wired in series to a 2ch amp gives 8ohm? and both wired in paralled gives 2ohm with each having its own ch. I wired them both parallel black w/black and red w/red then installed them... they seem to both work that way. So what ohms am I at....? this @!#$ confuses me! I still dont understand how it just wont work when wired in series where the other works just fine. Anyways they seem to hit soooo much better than sealed soooo ahhhhh.... PORTED FTW! also I have a buzzing/crack noise when I turn the vol to 0 and when the engines running/reving... what causes this... Its wired the same as when I had the sealed box. I checked the wires and all. Thanks..

your at 2 ohm wire in parallel and 8 wired in series go to www.rockfordfosgate.com and find the woofer wiring wizard under support
as for it clipping or shutting off the ported box could just require more power to push them subs i have had it happen.as for the buzzing cracking noise it could be the gain on the amp so turn it down to a lower setting also the popping could be alt wine or a bad ground. one way to tell if it clipping is hook it up and watch what the amp does there should be either a red or green power light red means stop green means go

check the gain level grounds and if all is wrong try a ground loop isolator sold around town at place i dread like best buy , circuit city , even wall marts. might clean up the problem of alt wine. if you are running 2 ohms to a two channel amp the power light might be red instead of green because it is sensing to small of a ohms load at the amp if it's a two i suggest to put it on one channel 4 ohm on channel 1 and 4 ohm on channel 2 this will keep you amp from dying on you this should clean up that wine to.

there is a difference between the mono and 2 channel amp mono channel amps have 2 pins to hook speakers to a mono channel and two channel amps have 4 pins to hook you speakers to. mono channel amp will handle ohm loads down as low as 1 ohm on certain models. two channels most of the time will only handle 4 ohms.

the 2 channel will only handle 4 ohms on bridge mode. but will handle 2 ohms in stereo on on a single channel
