Questions for high output alternator owners...

I'm looking to either get a 160A or 200A alternator and I just want to know what I'm getting into here...

Stock alternator for J's is 105 amps, right?

About how many amps do J's use with the engine running and all other options turned off?

How many amps does your HO alternator produce?

Did you have to get a different belt?

Does the belt slip?

Was performance or fuel economy affected?

mine is a 180 amp but i do wish i got one a little higher, im not sure what the car drews with everything off but i guess it ould be around 50-60.

the highamp alternators for the j (up to 200-220 amps) are the same alt. they just beef them up a bit, so you use the same belt and it don't slip.

you can go higher (upto 300 i think) but you would need a gm large case and with that you need new brackets, and belt
