Help with 03 cd install please
Tuesday, July 24, 2007 6:22 PM
Hello

I am wondering what the color code for the wires in the 2003 sunfire sedan are. I need to wire the right ones o the new cd harness, so I need a wiring diagram or chart.

Thank You

Sean

Sorry, don't know the colours.
But if you're trying to figure out what wires go to what speaker you could just use a 1.5V battery...

Assuming they are the same as the 03+ Cavaliers

03+ Stock Stereo Speaker Wires (non monsoon)

Tan - Left Front Speaker Output (+)
Gray - Left Front Speaker Output (-)
Light Green - Right Front Speaker Output (+)
Dark green - Right Front Speaker Output (-)
Brown - Left Rear Speaker Output (+)
Yellow - Left Rear Speaker Output (-)
Dark Blue - Right Rear Speaker Output (+)
Light Blue - Right Rear Speaker Output (-)

Please tell me your not cutting the factory plug end off Go to walmart and spend $9 and save yourself allot of trouble. you will just have to match colors between the walmart harness and the one that came with your HU

Don't cut your factory wires! Buy a harness without that $100 external door chime. If you can't find one, get a T-harness for $25. Saving a few bucks now isn't worth the headaches you'll have later.

heh, I did that to my sunfire, snipped off the end on the car, it was a monsoon system. I only did it because I heard all kinds of mumbo jumbo about how the car wouldnt work w/o the stock HU in it, or that I had to relocate it to the trunk, or all this other stuff... I ended up just taking out the amp and the deck and using the wires that were already there, too me FOREVER to figure out what went where...

Buy the plug!

I gave GM a call just to check out the rumors about the airbags and crap. Here is what I turned up

The Stock radio has a type of memory in it which is directly linked to the ECM unit. They said (straight from GM) that removing the old radio without finding an aftermarket module could potentially cause the following

Loss of door chimes (Duh)
Loss of airbag function (they wont blow spontaneously just likely not work due to sensors not getting data to the memory in the radio.)
loss of radio memory (the new player has its own for that anyway another captain obvious one)
Loss of onstar functions (again the onstar cellphone goes through the audio)
Engine Error codes ARE stored here
Also there is a very slight chance of frying the ECM but it has not yet been reported. The above has and is in conjunction with GM's new mistake of changing the wiring circuits. GMs are good cars they all just have a few of those experiments that cause headaches. GM actually installed this memory module in the radio for easier access, instead of digging out the ECM they just had to pull the radio to diagnose it. it sends it on the same data line that tells the radio to beep the chimes.

Your auto transmission - not affected. Gear ratios and timings are stored in a rom.
Your head will not explode
Your BCM will not be affected
Your engine will still start

I bought the cable with the fancy doodad on it now I just need a new cd player, stairs are bad for electronics.

...I can't believe you would even post that. Not even half of that is true...

Those are the only things proven to be affected if you don't use the GM harness. You could have saved yourself the money and used a regular harness. Next time before you call GM and listen to their BS, check your facts here. Hundred if not thousands of jbo owners have installed radios without the GM harness and nothing has gone wrong.

Matter a fact there is a sticky on the top of the page explaining all class two radios http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=4&i=51826&t=51826
