Need In Dash DVD Player while Vehicle is Moving
Wednesday, August 29, 2007 4:31 PM
Looking for a Head Unit that will allow me to play DVDs while the Vehicle is moving and not having to have the Emergency Brake Engaged. I have the JVC KD AVX2 right now but it isnt installed. I have been told it wont do what I am needing, so I am looking for one now that will. IT will be going in a Silverado and it is a 1 1/2 half DIN. So forcing a Double DIN in there is gonna be a bitch.

Anyone with any ideas? Thanks in advance!

i THINK that all of them are SUPPOSED to have the ebrake on. you just have to bypass it...which i don't know how to do. but i know its doable.

GO PATS!!!

Do a search for Jensen DVD player in this forum. Iv posted this i dont know how many times(im to lazy to look it back up right now)

Unless its using a Gyro then it can be bypassed(even it is, you could use software)

Thanks rednine that is what i was looking for. I had to do all kinda extra work on my Z2 unit to get it to work in my sostice and i just want something simple in this one for trips. wont even be using the dvd screen for myself just an extra in the car to run the other screens on trips. Does this radio allow extra output to add screens?

My old clarion touch screen u didnt have to hook up any wires for that, but thats how most of the "older" ones are...now i have both jensens in both my cars, and i had to wire the pink wire "e-brake" wire to a push-pull switch, there is a sequence it has to see, and it u put it to a switch and do the sequence, then its bypassed, most newer ones are like that, some of the BRAND new ones are too smart though, just watch what ya get.

The AVX2 is so easy. Just ground it to itself. Mine plays without a hitch.

Just a little help(i like the relay method)

Quote:

Ok well just so you know, its illegal in most states to have a Screen playing a movie, forward of the drivers seat while in motion....

Now a jensen, well most of them, dont have the extra security like the alpines and pioneer. You should just be able to ground it like to the ground behind your stereo.

However you can test this.

With the head unit out, touch the pink wire to ground with the car turned off. Now turn the car on while keeping the pink wire grounded. If it lets you watch a movie, theres you solution. Splice in and your set. If it still gives you the error. Start the car like normal AND THEN ground the pink wire. if it works then what you need is either a switch or a relay.

Whats happening, is upon startup the LCD unit is looking for ground. if it sees ground then it disables the DVD player. This to keep people from grounding the wire permenently. Putting a switch in between the wire and ground simply makes its so you can turn your car on with the pink wire open and then flip the switch to ground it. Contrary to what people above are saying, you dont have to flip the switch on and off to mimic the pulse of the e brake. All you do is start the car with the switch OFF, and then when the dvd unit boots up flip the switch to on so it grounds and your set.

I went the relay route. All I did was use my Remote Amp lead from the head unit.

Look up Relay diagrams on google if you dont know how to wire one
Ill try to make this simple. You have four plugs on a relay.

85,86,87,30

Hook your remote amp lead to Pin 86
Pin 85 to ground
pin 87 to ground
and Pin 30 to your Pink Wire

All relays have these numbers...well most..

Now whats happening is when your Stereo turns on it looks for ground and doesnt see anything so it see's it as the e brake off.
Then it finishes starting up and turns on your amp leads
That clicks on the relay and allows the pink wire to ground out making your dvd player think the ebrake is on.

Viola

Yea I just ordered a set of 12.2 inch monitors built into the sun visors off ebay. They look hella nice. Gonna have to install the JVC now that you let me know it is simple. once I get the visors in.
