metra 5 1/4 4x6 hole plate adapters....

ok, so i got myself a really nice kenwood component kit this week, and its got a 5 1/4" size woofer. when i ordered from crutchfield they told me they had adapter plates that would place the woofer in the stock 4X6 door speaker location. so i got everything all screwed down, woofer mounted in the plate etc. and i go to put the door panel back on and the surround on the woofer hits the inside of the door panel.

should i just sand the inside of the stock grille down a tad so it will fit, or should i cut the stock grille out completly and make a nice panel to go there using the kenwood grille? id really rather just use the stock stuff, but if i have to i guess i can make something work for the kenwood grille.

just need to know what you guys did so i can get this finished.

thanks!

wow-those really look nice. i just asked the seller if they make a 5 1/4 kit instead of the 6.5" kit. we'll see what they say.

anyways, ive determined that the reason they hit is because i have a layer of dynamat stuck over the door down there over the entire speaker section, as well as the mounting surface on the adapters angles the woofer up towards the driver a tad. it doesnt hit on the top of the wooffer, just the bottom section where its stuck out more.

i really would rather have the mdf versions though, they look extremly nice.

thanks for your help kind sir.

A 5.25 and a 6.5 speaker have the same mounting points the 5.25 just have little mounting ears that stick out and the 6.5 in in the speaker frame its-self. I had the metra adapters also , the ones that angled up but they hit so i just made my own.

this is what i did. you can see the MDF showing a bit, so i will cover that at some point. this is what the door looks like with giant holes cut in it, and a grille i made.

Which Kenwoods did you buy? I just picked up eXcelon KFC-X1710P
6-1/2" 2-way Component System. Im making my own mounting brackets, and Im not sure if, or how it will fit

yull be fine as long as you dont angle the mounting position up in any way.
