6.5 in doors
Monday, September 10, 2007 5:17 PM
I went to the audio shop today and heard their selection of 5 1/4's and 6 1/2 mid range speakers. I fell in love with KFC-X1710P kenwoods. The problem is, will a 6.5's fit in my doors if i make an adapter out of 3/4 inch or 1/4 inch mdf?

I have no clue how deep they mount, or how tall they are from front. Any ideas? http://www.pa.en.kenwood.net/Car_Entertainment/eXcelon/KFC-X1710P is the product page but it doesn't offer much insight.

Next to Boston's running same amp, they had Much better sound. Im looking for mid's and highs because i messed up my door speakers, and my 3 ways in the back deck cant pull their own weight. I plan to amp these guys with 60W RMS, as at 50W RMS they were Great.

They are about 3 1/2 inch deep .... will that cause problems?

At that depth they are probally too deep. I just fit 6.5 Polks with a 2" mounting depth in with .5 spacer

I just purchased them, o well. I will figure something out, Max spacer, external install. Who knows. $125 will not be wasted.

How much room is there back there?

3 1/2" sounds pretty deep to me you may have issues esp if u have manual windows. if u have electric you could just mount the speaker from the outside on a thicker spacer ring to somewhat fit.

I have Manual Windows

Im thinking a combination spacer ring and possibly modified door panel will get me through.

I wish i had found a better sounding speaker that would have been easier. I fell in love with these bad boys.

I was thinking about it, but it seems like it would take up way too much of my leg room. and with a clutch it's even less. Besides, my last glass project was enough for a while. I put it in the car just now, it was a back deck with raised and tilted 6x9's. I sucked with the bondo, and the glass came out to uneven, so i carpeted it and it looks awesome that way. Seeing as carpeting a kick pod would be a bitch, i don't think its my best route.

I was looking at the Q logic, but they won't fit my speakers i believe. Either way, im tight on cash, and i still need an amp and i dont want to skimp. I have MDF and the tools, so i will probably check fit when i get them and go from there.

check carefully before you cut anything, my new mb quart 6.5's are deep like that and i can't get them in without heavily modifying the doors etc. think im going to redo my kickpods and put all 3 speakers down there.

mine are 5 1/4, but the mounting is the same i guess (so ive heard) for the 6.5's.

metra 4x6 to 5 1/4 plates...

installed...

and even with shaving the inside of the door panel, the surround still rubs against the inside of it.

how deep were your kenwoods?

Plus, that dynomat probably added. a bit too. Did the Rub not allow your door panels to go back on? or was it bad enough that modification was needed.

2 and 3/8 .... looked it up.

How much Room is there behind them (with window down) would be a better question.

^^^ have absolutly no idea as i cant see through steel

lol, idk man, it didnt hit anything behind there and thats all i care about. the door panel goes on just fine, it BARELY hits the surround, but it does indeed. and yeah u maybe right on the dynamat, even though it sqeezes away when u screw something down on it, theres still a space there nonetheless.

Indeed sndsgood, Im laying out a contingency plan right now, im thinking about a pod on the door itself, I will know for sure on Tuesday when they come in.

Im hoping that the 3 1/2 estimate is wrong, it wasn't an official number, just something a shady website hat posted no where else did.

Good News, they came in today, and they are 3 1/2 across @ the Magnet, Not Deep.

2 7/16 inches deep, with a 3/4 inch plate, thats about 1.75 inches deep into door. Is that too much?

i believe you have like 2.2" from the door to the window track, and if u need be you can relocate the window track back another 1/4" or so.
