Get yourself a wiring harness, it'll be your easiest bet instead of hard wiring.
I have a wiring harness. I need to know what stock wires (that are in the car allready) go where. i've figured out all the speakers but i can't get the unit to power on. mostly im wondering what is (switched power) and what is the constant power
or do i have to run a wire to the battery for this
2001 2 door five speed 122k.

2000+ specific:
Purple - Class 2 signal, radio on (2000+ cars only)
Pink - Radio On Signal (2000+ Monsoon, amplified systems only)

Please excuse me bringing back a thread from September.
I looked around for more information here, but could'n find a complete answer.
I just grabbed a CD player from a 2000 Sunfire (non-GT; non-Monsoon).
From this and another post this is what I believe the wiring to be - please correct me if I'm wrong:
group #1
Purple (A1) = 12v Ignition
Orange (B1) = 12v constant
Grey (B4) = Radio Illumination/Dimmer
Black (B5) = Ground
groupe #2
Tan (A8) = Left Front Speaker (+)
Grey (A9) = Left Front Speaker (-)
Light Blue (A10) = Right Rear Speaker (-)
Dark Blue (A11) = Right Rear Speaker (+)
Black (A12) = Ground
Browne (B9) = Left Rear Speaker (+)
Yellow (B10) = Left Rear Speaker (-)
Dark Green (B11) = Right Front Speaker (-)
Light Green (B12) = Right Front Speaker (+)
Pretty much... just curious why you want to know... what car is it going into?
If you're trying to install it in a non 2000+ (aka Non-Class 2 car), it'll never turn on. You need the Body Control Module (BCM) only found in 2000+ cars, to tell the deck to turn on and off. It's a data wire, not a switched wire. No way around that....
Is there any way to get the BCM, put it in a pre-'00 car and fool the deck into thinking it's in the right kind of car?
This is news to me.
Yes I was going to try to put it in a pre-'00 car...
or at least confirm it worked properly and didn't need to be unlocked, then put it on eBay.
Not really. The BCM gets signals from the PCM.. so you'd need a 2000+ PCM as well to make it work right. I don't even think it would physically fit in the dash on a 95-99 car, since the 2000+ deck is a double DIN height, and the 95-99 is a 1.5 DIN.
Whatever car it does go into... will need to be "unlocked" by a GM Tech 2 diagnostic tool, as it's paired with the BCM from the factory. So you need to reflash the BCM into recognizing the deck once it's installed.
There isn't an easy way to do this... basically, it's got to be in a 2000+ car.
Thank you very much for your help!

So it's the purple wire that comes from the BCM that is the data wire, what is the BCM sending down that wire and can it be duplicated so the stereo can be put in an older car or in my case the garage?
I've done a lot of searching and haven't been able to find this info anywhere.

This is the first time I've heard of someone wanting to keep a stock radio for any purpose other than a door stop... so I can't imagine there's much of a market for an aftermarket company to make such a device. I've never heard of one.
