I have a 2001 and there is BARELY enough room for the scosche adapter i purchased from walmart for the headunit, a pioneer DEH8600. also when its mounted it is more towards one side and i can not fit the trim ring on, and there are gaps at the top and bottom of the adapter, can anyone point me to one that fits ? thanks!

I got
this one from Crutchfield with for my new Kenwood DIN headunit. The fit is excellent, though I do begrudge losing access to my cup holder, since it protrudes a full inch. I see they have models that protrude less, but the fit may be tight.

i know its not the same, but i bought one of the scoosche adapter plates from canadian tire here in ontario when i bought my new deck (my old din and a half pioneer was starting to have buttons fail on me). it installed nice enough, but i was pissed that it came out so far from the dash trim and loss the use of my cup holder. i pulled it out and in a day and a half i fabricated my own bracket mounts and trim piece. it looks ok, but still needs some work to it.

thats a head on pick of the deck and trim
there is a side shot to show just how much it actually stick out.
the trim piece i originally had looked very similar to geeky's, except it had the trim filler that pushed it out that 1/2 and inch the whole way around the deck instead of just at the top.

I used the one I have because it cane free with the head unit (along with antenna adapter and wiring harness), but I'd switch to one that flush-mounts like that in a heartbeat.

Are you guys morons? His car is a 2001, different kits.
Go to a store or online and get a METRA 99-2003 Dash Kit.

I figured "Fits select 1994-01 Chevy" probably included 2001. If 2001 does take a different kit, then fine -- but I don't think I deserved getting called moron for taking the Crutchfield description as truth.

The reason I asked is that you guys both posted pics of your 95-99 dashes, like it even mattered at this point.
Also I didn't call you a moron, I asked if you were.
In my case, a major contributing factor would be that I've never seen the dash in a newer Cavalier. I thought that aside from some fooling around with the instruments and bezel, they were basically the same. I may have given GM too much credit, thinking that redesigning the center dash in their econoboxes would have been too frivolous an expenditure. Did they actually put the cup holder someplace where a drink doesn't bump the track-select buttons on the CD player?

The HVAC controls are down low, NO MORE ashtray. Then the stereo was put up high under the Vents, and it is a DD sized stereo.
it is a double din hole.......that you cant put an aftermarket double din in.

Oh really? Wonder why we put DD units in them? hmmm. Joe from Modified Motorsports has a DD eXcelon in his Sunfire. Wonder how he did it?
show me a non-modified 00+ cavalier dash that has an aftermarket double din unit in it. And I duno wtf is up your ass man, but go ahead, prove it.

Metra MAKES A DOUBLE DIN KIT! The brackets screw DIRECTLY ONTO THE CHASSIS of the Double Din Headunit, then there is a trim ring that comes with the stereo.
eXcelon 8015 in Joe's car.
So basically you want me to remove my stereo from my dash of my 03, then mount a DD unit in it to PROVE YOU WRONG? How about you're wrong. Plain and simple.
I will take a pic next time I install a DD in a CAVALIER just to show you.
What are you a moron? I said show me a non-modified 00+ cavalier dash that has an aftermarket double din unit in it. Not a sunfire, and not a plastic kit that "looks" like it might fit.
