Please help me with strange problem.

(1987 Sunbird) I had my dash apart to replace some burned out insturment panel lights, and while I had my factory AM,FM/cassette stereo out I hooked up a CB. I wired it into my radio harness so it would go on and off with the key. This morning on my way to work the stereo didnt work, and when I got to work and turned off the lights it came on. Then on my way home this afternoon it worked all the time but when the lights (Headlights or parking lights) the display on the stereo goes out.
I dont know how the CB would have anything to do with it, so I wanted to know is it possable to plug in the wire harness in the wrong location on the back of the stereo, or will they only fit where they belong? There is a blue plug, a white plug, and a black plug ??
I would appreciate any info !

does your CB go out or is it the radio itself? either way what you probably did was put the ground wire on the dimmer wire. How you did that with a factory radio idk?!? double check everything....

The cb doesn't go out. I think I used the top plug on the radio. What I did was use my test meter to determine a power wire that went off with the key, and the ground. (The plug I used had 2 wires. The + and the ground) I guess I will have to tear back into it and unhook the CB wires and see what I got.

Well,
I pulled the radio (3 times) Ended up cutting the 2 power supply lines and running to a fuse that goes on/off witk the key and still the display goes out on the radio when I turn headlights or parking lights on.
All I can think now is I need a different radio?

Wire the CB right into the Wiper Circuit. 12v switched right there.

Maybe your radio will work without something drawing its power?

There's a good chance the voltage on the red wire is sagging too much because you're running the CB off it. The entire car's 12v drops a bit when the headlights are on, so it's possible with the CB riding off this line, the headlight drop is enough to take the wire below the "on" threshold. Find a more solid power source for the CB. If it's not switched, wire up a relay.

So could you tell me what wire is suppose to power the radio display when the headlights are on?
Is it a different wire that powers it when it is off?
