ok i have
1 hifonics atlas sub
model: as12sqd4 - dual 4 ohm 900rms
1 solo baric kicker sub
model: s12L7 - dual 2 ohm (the kicker says 2 ohms on the back of it, the net says its 4ohm) 750 rms
what amp do you think would be able to drive these two subs together?
also what box would fit them both
btw i have a sunfire coupe
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
i don't think this is a good idea, pic one and one amp would be your best bet
why wouldnt it be a good idea???
i currently have an amp that i have sitting here...its a kenwood excelon model kac-x401m...
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
because you'd be mixing 2 different style subs, and two different brands, it just dont come out good, im partial to solo baric's because i used 2 have one, there insane, idk id choose that with a mono amp 700:1 ,or 1000:1? idk i ran my old mtx with it, pushed about 950 watts sounds str8
so the solo baric over the hifonic??? whats better....900rms at 4ohms or 750 rms at 2 ohms?
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
well if they are DVC subs you will be either running at 8 0r 2 ohms with the hifonics and 4 or 1 ohms with the kicker.
it would be best for some of the more knowledgeable guys if you stated what you want out of your system, right now it seems like loud-ass car rattling, what your price range for the other amp will be once you decide on what sub you will be going with. maybe they will be able to suggest some box sizes and dimensions as well.
judgin by the kenwood amp that i have above (kenwood excelon model kac-x401m) and the two subs that i have...what would sound better?
also, on ohms what sounds better??? 900rms at 4ohms or 750 rms at 2 ohms?
i guess i want something that hits really hard but that is deep. i have some good speakers that will take care of the rest..
but i dont know about the ohms and stuff..maybe someone can help me wire the subs to the amp
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
Run the Atlas sub. Wire it in parallel, it'll give you a 2 ohm final load.
alright, so run the atlas sub, pararell at a 2ohm load with the amp that i currently have? awesome tahnks
could someone explain to me ohms?
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
Ohms is resistance, or the lack of. Higher ohms is more resistance, lower is less. Amps will run at a certain lack of resistance before they cook. Voice coils are rated at a resistance. You try to match the resistance of your amp to your subs.
gotcha...thanks guys.
less ohms more power and the more ohms technically the less power?
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
Basically, but if you go below the lowest recommend ohm load rating on the amp you run the risk of frying the amp. the subs, or both. Usually the amp will say on it what the lowest safe ohm rating is.

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
LOL
i still like the kickers better, but they know more about the stereo stuff than i do, so go with what there sayin
we will see, ill let you guys know what kicks harder...
i bought my solo baric from a friend years ago and i just found out that he had the solo baric (which is a 2ohm sub) wired at 4ohms....the other way of wiring a 2ohm sub parallel is a 1ohm load but my sub cannot handle that load. im sure it would ramble my car to pieces...its goint to be awesome wiring a 4 ohm sub to 2 ohm.
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
Dual 2 ohms you can run at 4 ohm, 1 ohm, or 2 ohm with a variable resistor/potentiometer on the other coil, but that's a different story and I don't want to see smokezilla in your car. Stick with the dual 4 atlas and you should be pretty pleased.
haha cool! ill let you guys know how it turned out...hey lanman, whats up with the foot on ur sig?
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
That's not a foot, that's the hoof. Kate from Kate's playground has a hoof foot. I decided to make it my sig.

have you heard both to compare? Just because Hifonics does not carry a name like kicker does do not underestimate them. More competitors run for team Maxxsonics than almost any otherl. their amps are top notch and their subs have been coming on strong. Ive heard my fair share of L7s and the atlas is a louder woofer in most cases. Let me just say that in a daily driving scenario I would take the atlas. factor in that the kicker is a dual 2 ohm and his amp should make power at 2 ohm I would take the DVC four ohm woofer to get the most out of it.
well i will definitely let ya know...

Nate speaks good words as well. I was running Hifonics amps before they got stolen, and they rocked.
