well first off i have a hifonics BX1205D, its a1200w mono amp, and a pioneer premier TS-W3002spl its a 3000w max sub,
everything was working fine, until i decided to hook up my friends Alpine Type R to it also,
first of all i we pluged both subs in the same port on the amp, im not sure if that makes a difference at all, or what. it worked fine for about 20 minutes, and then it just stoped hitting, and the protect light came on on the amp. now when ever it turns on it just goes in to protect mode
so i dont know what happend, if the amp couldnt handle both subs? or because they were different subs?, could that have caused a problem.
im not sure what to do, i could pay 40 dollars to have it checked out at this place by my work, but that 40 bucks could go towards a new amp if i need one.

my guess is when you wired in the type r it wasnt the same ohms as the pioneer you had on the amp, if thats the case then that is why your amp went into protect because you made it work to an ohm load it could not handle, try disconnecting all wires to the amp let it sit for a few minutes then hook it all back up, but do not hook up the type r again, if it works great if not then something is most definitly blown and could be anywhere from a 40$ to about 200$ fix depending what it could need
Combined load is what matters and when you attached that second sub, you probably halved it, at least. Disconnect ALL your subs and power the amp on. If the protect light comes on, you've destroyed something, most likely your output stage.

If the alpine was a dual 2 wired parallel, you have yourself a paperweight. Check the ohms on your speakers, make sure you didn't juice a coil because that would go into protect mode. If you power up the amp with no speakers attached and it goes into protect, chuck it.
yah i read the manual and already did that, i disconected all speakers, turned it on and protect light still came on.
so it looks like i got a new paperweight

Not trying to be a prick here, but did you check the fuse?

There's a good chance something mounted to the chassis is blown (either a power supply or output transistor). If the warranty is out, crack it open. You've got nothing to lose.

if you disconnected everything and hooked it back up with out the subs connected and its still in protect its prolly done. Usually when it clips out like that you can get it back by removing the speaker you added or by re wiring it (the speakers). If its still in protect with just the power hooked up then you got a nice paperweight there....
