My tape player is becoming a pain in the ass to use with my mp3 player, so I've decided to get a new radio. The one above is the one I'm thinking of getting. I know it's a cheapo model, but for the price, what do you guys think? I don't know much about audio and stuff, so let me know if this is a good brand/model for the money. Thanks.
When I got my Sunfire, there was a Kenwood already installed and it was pure and utter crap... skipped all the time, especially burned CD's. I couldn't stand it and ripped that turd out the next day.
Personally I swear by Pioneer and Alpine for head units and you know, you can probably find some on ebay in that price range. The Pioneer DEH-3900 go pretty cheap now... That's what I put in after I took the Kenwood out; it's step dad's truck now. Nothing fancy about it, but it never did me wrong. But go for the Kenwood if you want, just sharing my experience with one.
I love my kenwood your must have been a old piece of junk. Check out the x591 on ebay its what i have and it very simple tu use and it also has a usb input so you can just plug you mp3 player right in. Mine ran me about 120 shipped,
The x591 looks pretty nice. I'll probably throw it on my X-mas list, so cost isn't too much of an issue, so long as it remains below like $200. People can team up on my gifts for me
spend some more money...nothing wrong with kenwood just get something a little better. That kenwood you picked doesnt even play mp3 cd's....i also swear by pioneer and the 3900 would be a BETTER choice....
Honestly I'm just looking for something that I can plug my mp3 player straight into with an 1/8" > 1/8" plug. I don't know specific specifications, but the Pioneer 3900 looks pretty nice too. Could you tell me the pros/cons of each one in comparison to one another? I know I'm a pain in the ass, but it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Also, I like my bass, so how are these head units at projecting bass?
After looking at both of them while knowing nothing about audio, I've concluded the Pioneer 3900 is the one for me. Thanks, and triple post for the lose
the 3900 has 3 rca outputs in case you ever wanna add amps, 22 watts rms per speaker (while the kenwood had less power) front aux input and of course plays just about any cd you throw at it! good pick!
Hey Man, I can attest for the kenwood cd deck because my cousin installed it in his stang LX and it bumps really good. he got 2 x 6.5s in the rear and they sound good. If you still have not made up your mind i say you get that one because i think similar to you about something simple and cost effective. Make the right choice!

The one that was installed in mine was very much like this one
HERE
but it lit up red instead of blue...
As far as car audio goes I'm biased lol That experience alone turned me off to Kenwood. Honestly, the unit may not have been taken care of by the previous owner of the car... I have no idea, that could have been the problem but you know, the Pioneer DEH-P3900MP deck had been in my car for almost a year and it worked great and it still works great in my step dad's Sierra so of course I'm going to recommend it.
And as far as mp3 player expandability, you can get the CDRB-10 to plug into the IP-BUS on the back of the unit and connect your player or you can simply plug it in on the front with the AUX input. And the built in equalizer is decent too, if you're worried about bass. You can change the level to your liking. And I don't know if you have aftermarket speakers but when I first installed it, and I had the factory speakers in there, it sounded decent at high volume. So, in the end, I was satisfied with unit and you probably will be too.
And I mean absolutely no disrespect to those of you who have Kenwood products in your car, I was just sharing my experience. Like I said I have no idea why it was skipping and acting the way it was, sorry if it seemed like I was generalizing all their stuff, didn't intend too
Thanks for the help/info/support guys
I think I'll definitely go with the Pioneer, and I'll probably just get the 1/8" > 1/8" connector and plug it in the front. Easier for me to mess with it that way. Thanks again guys
Alright guys, bringing this thread up from the semi-dead to ask another question. I'm getting the radio for Christmas, and the person getting it from me is using this site >
http://www.crutchfield.com/ . After inputting my cars specifications it's telling me that the radio won't fit. Can anybody vouch that it will/won't? I'm looking at the Pioneer 3900. Thanks.
Im guessing its the depth of the unit. Our cars have a lip the raised lip at the rear of the radio area. If you dremel it out im sure it will fit
The thing that confuses me is that Best Buy's website said it would fit but this one says it won't. I'm going to say just get it and we'll do what we can to make it work. Thanks.
it will fit....its tight but it fits...I got the 4900 and it fits but it does take some force to get it in ( i didnt cut the plastic in the back and i used a harness). Honestly it can be a PITA but it will fit
