Okay, here's the deal. I've got the Pioneer DEH-7800MP head unit installed in my Sunfire. I've been listening to CD's since I installed it but I hooked up my MP3 player through the jack on the back of the unit today and the sound was absolutely horrible; low volume, lots of static it seems. So, I turned up the volume on the MP3 player itself hoping that would fix the problem but no go. So I tried my brother's mp3 player and I got the same result.
So now I'm wondering if it's the jack cable itself. I'm thinking if I got the CDRB-10 it would fix the problem? I'm not sure, and I've searched on here and google so I thought I'd just go ahead and ask. I've read about people using FM transmitters but I've also read they usually sound like @!#$. I'm not sure, any help would be great.
stick with the cable but just buy a good one. I got a gold plated cable in a pioneer 4900 connected to the back and the sound is fine....no static. Obviously cd's sound better but its not horrible like you describe. Buy a better aux cable and you should be fine, mine retailed for about $15 bucks give or take depending on where you go. Try a gold plated one....
I just bought the pioneer ipod control unit for my girlfriend. I would imagine that would be the better way to go. I'll let you know after christmas how it works out. She has a pioneer deh-p8mp. I would think though that it would make a decent difference sound in quality.

I have a Kenwood HU and bought a cheap AUX cable off ebay for it, I have the same problem with the low volume...i would imagine a higher quality cable would fix it as well...
Just stopped at Canadian Tire and pick up a gold plated jack and it works!
I was using a scosche (sp?) one from Wal-Mart with my old head unit (DEH-3900) and it worked fine, no problems, but as soon as I plugged it into this new one (DEH-7800), the sound was garbage.
Anyway, thanks guys for the input, and thanks to illdwes for the fix!

Its very very slow and sometimes unresponsive...however, the quality is great because its not feeding off the audio signal, its talking to it through its built in interface...audio isnt trasfered as audio, but as data
no problem....i didnt tell him to get the ipod cable cuz he never said he had an ipod....that would be the best way to go but only if you have an ipod. He said mp3 player so i assumed something other than an ipod...BTW your welcome =)
I know, i was just telling you, cause you said you didnt know how well it worked...
I have a cheap headunit and an even cheaper cable, everything has sounded fine to me.
