Front Speaker Reccomendations

I just had this amp installed a couple of days ago.....

http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Metrik-4-channel-High-Performance-Power-Amplifier/2567352/product.html

.....Now I'm wanting to upgrade my upgraded 4x6s lol to complete my setup. I've gone to a couple of places and listened to some 6.5s but I'm still not sure what would work the best and actually fit behind the door for around $100.

I've also been told that dual cone subs would work better for my setup. Any reccomendations for those would be appreciated.

I second the Infinity's, they sound great. I have Kenwood Mids's with Tweeter components in my doors, they are 6 3/4 and do not fit well. They are as big as you can go without modding the door panels (fiberglassing them). If the tweeter was attached to the woofer, it wouldn't have worked. They have great highs, and decent mids. They are clean and crisp when cranked, I enjoy them. http://kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entertainment/Speakers/6.75''_Speakers/KFC-P707 some reviews say the highs are not to great, but they were the best sounding ones at my local shop under 300 if you ask me. They can be had for around 120, so its a bit out of your range.

Look for a 6 1/2 infinity on ebay, you should be able to get some good ones for $75.

Me personally do not like Infinity for the simple reason that they use aluminum dome tweeters. Silk dome tweeters are not near as harsh on your ears as aluminum dome tweeters. Not to mention they just sound much better. The real answer to your question only lies within you, no one can tell you what is best to your ears. They can only tell you what they like, not what your going to like. Look around all of your local shops for what your looking for. Get to know the guys that work in there, sometimes they can and will cut you a good deal.

good advice. diffrent ears like diffrent things. pull your door panel off and have a peak and get your some measurements. the majority of 6.5" componet sets can fit with a mdf board mounted to the door but there are a few to big to fit so take a measurement, figure in an extra 3/4" or 1/2" for your mdf piece and grab you a set that fits that sound the best to your ears.

I knew someone would say something like that. Anyways, I don't deal with a shop persay, more like one guy. He does great work but he doesn't cut good deals when it comes to speakers. He did with my sub and amp package because he had both in stock but he told me he couldn't match alot of the online sellers that sell speakers for half or more under retail.

Anyways, I listened to these in a friend of a friend's Civic...

...and fell in love with 'em. They weren't amped but they were much more crisper than my 4x6s and they're supposed to be gold when amped.

My only concern is the mounting depth but the only difference between those and Mark's is 1/16 of an inch with a 3/4" spacer so we'll see what happens. Thanks for the replies and I shouldn't have used the term "best" as obviously that depends on opinion, I was just looking for reccomendations so I'd have some options to take seriously.

Im Pretty sure that they will fit depth wise with a 3/4 inch MDF adaptor. Mine was 2 3/4 inch depth and it just squeeks in there.

I had a set of 4x6 Boston Acoustic plates and they screamed.

Those Alpine Type R 6.5" should sound nice. I got a friend that has 2 sets of Alpine Type R 5X7's and a set of Alpine Type R 6X9's in his car. They are ampd to about 100watts rms for each set, and they get pretty loud and sound clear. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com
has the 6.5" speakers your looking at on sale right now for $87 puls shipping. It is time for the year end sales guys. But those speakers sound great. If this guy that you know can not beat or match that price of $87 get them online.

I just picked up a set for $90 shipped on eBay from the same seller that I got my Kicker 6x9s. I was thinking about picking up the Type R 6x9s but since I want to put more power to the fronts, I'm just going to stick with my Kicker 6x9s which sound good anyway.

Thanks everyone for the input

I just got 'em installed today and there isn't a whole bunch of room depth-wise. Maybe 1/4 inch, probably less, but they sound so much better than my old 4x6s and really round out my whole system. Now I'm seriously considering getting the 6x9s...

So, yeah, they fit perfectly with a 3/4 spacer.
