Swapping stock HU's
Tuesday, December 18, 2007 11:34 PM
Ok so here's the deal. I'm planning on getting a new stereo for my car (an 03 Cav) this week. My mom has a 99 Cav with a stock am/fm/tape, and I'd like to put my (soon to be) old am/fm/cd unit from my cav in hers. Are there any known issues with swapping a stock HU from a newer cav into an older one or is it just as simple as plug and play?

Sorry for the newbie question, TIA

I don't think you can swap from a CLASS2 (2003) to a CLASS1 (99). I do believe you have to get a similar year 96-99, the wiring is different.

This is exactly the case.... you'll only be able to swap in a class 1 into your 96-99.... so it will have to be from 96-99

Plus any 00+ HU you swap into your car from a different 00+ you need a Tech 2 to be able to reset the HU otherwise it is locked and you can't use it.
