RCA hook up w/ stock HU

maybe i missed it, but i searched and couldnt come up with the answers im looking for. Am i correct that the stock HU does not have hookups for RCAs and I have to buy an adaptor that will run from the stock speakers? Im new to the J-body world. I have a sub and amp and all the wiring already laying around and want to put it into my 03 cavy. a friend of mine said he got some sort of an adaptor that wires inline with the rear speakers, you just plug the RCAs into that.

another question i just thought of, does the dash have to come apart to get the stock HU out, like it looks like?

thanks for the help guys, and sorry if i missed anything in a search.

You really should search i believe there is a topic on the first page.

You need a LOC (line output converter)
and yes the dash has to be take out http://teamforwardmotion.com/tfmtech/j-body/audio/dash_removal.htm

Time for you to invest in a good headunit!!! F$ck all the bypass wires and all, just get a new deck with RCA pre-outs and runs the RCA's to the deck and remote wire also. Better sound quality too.

you do not need to take the radio out to hook up the LOC. you can hook it up in the trunk......much easier than removing the radio just hook em up to the speakers in the back.....easy as pie

ill get the LOC. The only reason i was wondering about it is because ive got everything already, so its pretty much free to do, aside from the LOC. Ive got lots of other places to spend the $$ than a new HU right now, otherwise i would, i dont like the stock one either. Thanks for the help guys.
