What is this part?
Monday, December 31, 2007 11:37 PM
I broke this on my 1997 Cavalier Z24.
It was in the trunk, driver side, by the 6x9 speaker..
I have no idea wtf it is, and no one else seems to know.
I couldn't reattach it before snapping off the 'L' connector.
Part numbers on it are
- Plastic casing CIC >PA66\<
- Electronic part 216J

So if anyone can help that would be cool, I'm really curious.
BTW..sorry for image quality, I'm drunk and don't have a digital camera and had to use macbook's internal camera. .lol.. (^_^)
thanks,
-Jason

It's the mercury switch that turns the trunk light on and off.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

Hmm.. Interesting...
the weird thing it was attached to the trunk, but under the back ledge.
But It could be just that since afterwards, the car didn't start 12 hours later.. lol.. so the drunk light stayed on I bet. Son of a Bit*h!
Thanks for the help everyone!
(^_^)
And Happy New Years!

I'm not perfect... I've gotten my share of things wrong lately, owing to the fact that I don't keep up to speed with what everyone's up to nowadays. I do know lots of obscure stuff though.. comes in useful sometimes.

That switch is supposed to be on the end of the trunk arm... sorry I don't have a pic.

I an really starting to dislike this part...lol.
I know it's the mercury trunk switch and it probably was the reason why my Cavy won't start...grr..
But there is just no room to work with it...so looks like I get to remove all kinds of fun interior stuff to fix it..lol..
Anyways thought I'd thank everyone and also share a little jpeg that I found on the net related to this.

thanks!

well its easier to access if you fold dont the rear seat, take out the plastic pieces and take out the rear carpeted deck. then you can access it. course if you dont mind not having a trunk light jsut cap off the wires
