Passlock 1 HELL!!!

Ok back to the passlock issue ... My 97 sunfire has the passlock system enabled. I can't figure it out the dealer can't figure it out so I am at a complete dead end. Here is what's wrong ;
-The car will start every time run for 1-2 sec. and shut itself down. Anti-theft light blinks and remains on.
Fuel pump comes on. There is spark, New fuel filter. Read thru a bunch of forums and concluded Passlock enabled.
I tried the 10, 20, 30 min. key on then key off.
Here is a brief summary of the work done to it.
-Took it to the dealer they replaced the ignition switch cylinder where the passlock sensor is located - didn't fix it. Then they told me the PCM is bad and they put a new one- DIDN'T FIX IT AGAIN. That pissed me off and I took it back so I am stuck with a huge bill from the dealer, my car not working, and I have no idea what's wrong.

The cluster sends the key to the PCM, so it could be a bad cluster...

Did you try this procedure?

http://www.j-body.org/faq//98/

Quote:

96-99 J-car

1. Attempt to start the vehicle, then leave the ignition ON. The THEFT SYSTEM light telltale will flash for 10 minutes.

2. When the THEFT SYSTEM telltale stops flashing, start the vehicle. Once the vehicle is running, the password is learned.

I had the same issues when I had a loose wire coming from the engine harness to the dash harness. I think it was grey/black stripe and it carried the PCM Data Bus signal. I did all of the passlock learning procedures and even turned passlock off with HP Tuners but it kept doing the same thing where it would run for 2 seconds and then shut off.

I would check the wiring first since that is free. If everything looks good, I would try to get a spare cluster from the junkyard and see if that fixes it. If that doesn't work, see if someone in your area with HP Tuners can turn Passlock off. That will cost you $100 in credits to use the HP Tuners software plus whatever the person wants to charge you.

I forgot to add that you should do the prodcedure Kardain mentioned first. My car would blink for the 10 minutes and then go solid. After it went solid the car would still only run for 2 seconds and then the theft light would remain solid every start after that.

Key to on... security light comes on... wait 10 minutes (don't open doors or anything... when the light goes off, turn the key to start. Don't turn it off first... just turn it forward to start. It should start and stay running. If not, it's not the Passlock but something else.

It's not a wise idea to just turn passlock off arbitrarily.
