i notice when i come to a stop and my car is at idle the lights dim a little. i have a 1997 2.2 chevy cavalier auto. what can be causing this ??
weak point in the electrical system somewhere. could have a bad ground, bad alternator, bad connection...etc.
1997 RedR - ZedR
I've got the same car, and I'll get dimming at a low idle (~600 rpm) if I introduce any substantial load. Basically, even just headlights and the rear defroster together will do it. I've pretty much decided that my alternator is weak and needs an upgrade to support my stereo habit.

the alternator is new guys
Is it just when the headlights are on or is the DRls doing it as well? Also do you have an aftermarket battery, or anything that is high draw like an amp etc. on at the same time? it could be a ton of things so more detailed you are the easier it will be for people to help.
how old is the battery. just because its a new alt doesnt mean you dont have a weak spot there. Also try redoing your grounds for your battery and alt. do it in at least 4 gauge. Im not sure what kind of stereo you have if any at all but the higher gauge grounds will help your standing voltage and im willing to bet you will not have a dimming issue after that.
the battery is about 2 years old. i have a aftermarket jvc radio but no amps. where can i get a good ground kit for the cavy ??
just buy some four gauge or bigger power wire and some ring terminals and make your own. doesnt have to be a premade kit.
Even before I did anything, with my headlights and heater on you could see a little bit of dimmage. Defroster adds a whole nother level as well.
