Instrument panel all screwed up!

Sup everyone? I'm hoping I can get some help. I've searched and have come up empty handed. I have an 04' Cav and about 6 months ago, my RPM's and MPH started to whack out on me. I'll be doing about 40 MPH it shows 100 MPH plus. RPM's are all over the place....probably 4, 000 Rpm's while the car is in park as an example. This morning, the temp gage went all the way up and the fuel isn't showing correctly now........it's just all fooked up I'm wondering if there are some tips out there on what I can do to get rid of this problem. Has anybody ever even had this problem? Hope to hear from ya! Thanks!

I have the same probleme, sunfire 2004, but only with the MPH. If i start the car and stop like 5-6 time the MPH will go to 0 mph, after this the tachometer work great for 2-3 days. I will replace it this week end and i will repost here if the problem gone.

I went through the same thing in my '04 sunfire, but more so just nothing loaded up,especially after etreme heat in the summer. Then my gauges would wind up and never go back down. You need a new sending unit back there.

Where is Lenko? I need his answer to this topic, since my sister is having the same issue with all her gauges from her 04 cavy.

*awaits anxiously for an answer.

Sorry... I was distracted by other posts

I've never come across this problem.... but.... Assuming it's an otherwise stock cluster.... I can only assume it's a bad ground somewhere. The most common one is the one under the battery tray... as Delco batteries are notorious for leaking (though mine never have....), and leak onto the ground on the frame rail under the battery tray. I'd say, check that first.

Otherwise... could be a defective cluster. Only way to know for sure is to swap in another one.

ok, first off i just bought a 2000 cavalier coup 2.2. i really only have one complaint so far. the instrument panel... i am having basically the same problem as mentioned above, but mine does the exact opposite. while cruising all gauges will go down to zero and all lights on the panel will come on. now i know this is a ground problem. i have checked the ground under the battery, so that leaves only the ground behind the cluster. i currently have the dash pad off and cannot access the ground point. i cannot take the rest of the dash apart to get to it. don't ask why, i just can't. the previous owner screwed some things up pretty good while installing a stereo. now to my question: which wire(s) coming out of the back of the instrument panel is grounded? i plan to just tap into them and run it directly to the negative battery cable. i am assuming its the black wire, but before i go tapping anything i want to be sure. thanks in advanced!
