okay so I don't know what the story is with this metra dash kit I got. It claims to be compatible with my car, a 97 4dr Cav, but nothing about it is really working. at all. I have to grind away some plastic just to get the plastic housing in itself, but thats not that bad.
The hard I part is putting it together correctly in the first place. I know I'm not the brightest when it comes to this stuff, but try and help me out. My head unit (pioneer DEH-p5900ib) wont fit inside with its cage the way it says to assemble it. It's a physical impossibility, I've checked it extensively. Furthermore, even if it were to fit there is no way to secure the unit to the plastic dash kit housing and it would just flop around in there. The instructions claim I need to fold some metal flaps to secure it...? it's all nice and vague the way I've noticed instructions for this sort of thing tend to be. Anyway... there are no flaps, and nowhere to fold these fictional flaps onto anyway. what the hell? what should I do here?
You may just have to put some thing under the head unit to support it. I just installed my new deck and i put some foam padding back under there.
Peace Out!!!
nevermind I figured it out. had to use some foam to support it and I did find tiny flaps at the front of the cage to bend up. definitely had to put the kit together wrong because not all the pieces fit like they seemed to believe they would.
