ok ok ok

i have had my 91 sunbird a week now...

absolutely LOVE the car....

Saturday I finally got to install my headunit...

rear speakers were evidently replaced by previous owner as the wires for them were ran up into the dash instead of being part of the factory wirring harness... they sound great...

HOWEVER!!!

my dash speakers are CRAP... I tell you CRAP!!!

i need to replace them...

i went to crutchfield & looked at 3 1/2 inch speakers... all 6 they carry....

I really liked the polk's & the infinity speakers, but guess what they say NONE of them will fit my car... so I am like WTF???

so i called them to get their reason behind this....

the tweeters on all the ones they carry stick up to high so the factory grill won't go back in... the guy even told me on 1 or 2 of the models i may be able to grind them with a dremel tool to make them low enough for my factory grills to go back on....

What????

ok so here is what i would like to know....

who makes a fricken 3 1/2 inch speaker that will fit in the dash of my 91 sunbird convertible with the factory grills in place?

or am i just SOL?????

i mean wally world sells some friggen durabrand replacements that will work... but i can bet you they will sound like crap compared to a good polk audio or jl or infinity speaker

hell i bet roadmaster or audiovox would sound better than a durabrand speaker

HELP!!!!!

thanks

3 1/2 sound like POS.

I had Rockford's in my 92, they were basically tweeters. Do a kick panel 6 1/2 or mount them in your door some how.

Dont waste the money on 3 1/2 speakers.

I don't care that they are mostly tweet... or mid/tweets.

I want them in the dash... had planed on using bass blockers on them when i install them, cause there will be a sub in the trunk & I have the 6X9's in the rear also

really dun't like the kick panels & would have to do some serious changes to door panel to put speakers there
due to door pocket being in the way.

I use the door pockets too.

am going to keep looking... i know someone makes a 3.5 that will fit with stock grills.

Go with the rockfords then. They fit in mine no problem. To be honest, I doubt any 3 1/2 wouldent fit.

If you haven't picked up the 6x9 yet, think about a component set back there. With some bass in the trunk it shouldent be awful, but your stageing will be pretty bad. Its not a lot to work with I know, but if you do the work its worth it IMO. When I started with my 92, I had the same thoughts as you, but beleive me, when you hear something better, you will change your mind.

Good Luck!
