Changing sub box

Hey guys just a quick question. Buddy of mine has a friend with some subs in a bandpass box ( think they are JBL but not sure). Anyway this guy is selling the box and subs and my buddy is thinking about getting it but doesn't want a bandpass box. The subs are suppose to be tuned for a bandpass box and so he is wondering if he removes the subs and installed them in a sealed box (which he has) would they sound ok or like crap. I know amp power and cubic feet of the box all play a part. I guess the main thing is if a sub that is suppose to be tuned for bandpass really any different from another sub or is it all in the box design. More like the bandpass box was designed for the sub. Sorry if this is a stupid question but i honestly couldn't answer the question and I have never dealt with bandpass boxes... always kind of steered away from them.

Thanks in advance

if their made for bandpass will they sound great sealed. chances are no. but chances are also good that he wouldnt know the diffrence. for the majority of people as long as it goes boom they are happy.

Thats kind of my thinking. Figured they would work but maybe not sound the best. I agree that most don't care as long as it makes noise, even I was like that when I first started out (by no means an expert now) figured that I could get by with the cheap stuff but have come to appreciate sq and see where the lower end gear starts to disappoint.

So I guess that if he wants subs its a cheap alternative just to consider they may not be exactly what he is looking for.
