Ok here's the deal....
found a site with great prices on stuff & am looking to buy what is needed come payday (if family stays healthy)
what I want to know is this
has anyone here ever dealt with products made by
Swiss Audio ?
the 3 1/2 " speakers look good & will fit stock locations in my dash on my 91 sunbird...
the same site has a great deal on the enclosure i was going to build, already built for a single 10 sub...
so it is cheaper than what it will cost me to build it & it is built just like i was going to build it...
so anyways...
what can folx let me know about swiss audio stuff (mainly full range speakers & their Subs), cause i might not use my old MTX sub & instead buy me a swiss audio sub
someone please let me know
thanks

also, the mtx subs i have, (which am only installing ONE of the subs) , are a SVC 4 ohm sub, am looking at the swiss audio DVC 4 ohm 10' sub model swp105w
if i wanna run one of these since they are DVC 4 ohm... the swiss audio site shows in the manual how to connect at 4 ohm...
they call it a righ sided connection or something like that...
can this be done since the amp I am getting is a 2 ch 400 watt amp that is 400 watts X 1 @ 4ohm
or what would i need to do to connect this sub up right?
thanks

Swiss Audio and Audiobahn are from the same company.
It's called a hambone connection. The hambone is connected to the chickenbone. If your amp does 400x1 @ 4 ohm, you want a dual 2 ohm sub so you can do the reverse pope on it and run it in series.
ok that makes sense...........i think..
now the manual for the swiss audio sub i am looking at shows how to connect the dvc 4 ohm sub as a 4 ohm sub...
one way is called a parallel single 4 ohm & the other is a right series single 4 ohm...
that is what confused me....
so you never said what your opinion of swiss audio is...
I am know i am getting the 3.5's for my dash....
but am not sure about the sub...
i have a good mtx.... just not sure it's going to go south when i hook the new amp on it since the mtx sub is a 125 watt rms sub...
& the amp is 400 watt X 1 @ 4 ohm.............. but I can't find an amp that puts out what i want to keep the mtx safe, thats why i thought about getting the swiss audio sub too
am a married man with teenagers & have a limited budget so thats why I am shopping around...
This comming weekend, putting my step sons sub in for temp till i get all my stuff in.... all he has is a motorcycle & so his amp & sub are just sitting in his closet....
thanks

Lanman only speaks the gospel! Swiss Audio is about a step above Jensen on the car audio totem pole. Audiobling merchandise is built for looks and not so much for sound.* My guess is that your MTX sub is better quality even at svc. Bottom line is that you get what you pay for. If you want to take a step up into better sound than you have now, without spending a lot, look into maybe a Fosgate amp and sub.

Me and Phil and a bunch of other guys take turns preaching. Sometimes we hit on the silly side of things. So now that we know you're married and kids n'at, lemme help a brother out.
Parallel on a dual voice coil sub is taking both positives and tying them together, and then taking both negatives and tying them together. You take the impedence of the voice coil and divide it by half. Series is taking one positive and one negative and tying them together, then running the other two wires (positive and negative respectively) to your amp. You take the impedence of a coil and double it. Ima throw a curve at you and tell you about putting a potentiometer on one coil and running the other coil to the amp, but that'll blow your mind. My suggestion? You're on a budget, you want some bang for your buck. Get yourself a type R with either a single 4 ohm coil or two dual 2 ohm coils. That'll be good for that amp.
Check your pm's.
ok kewl, that makes even better sense, & I did check & answer my pm's
thanks Lanman
also i have now made some design changes thanks to Lanman & am going to go with a SVC lanzar 10 inch sub & the amp i had already decided on.... will be a better match for my system & also the Lanzar 3.5 dash speakers too
& in the longrun save some money... I LIKE THAT!!!
thanks Ya'll

Lanzar is garbage? Why hasn't anyone let me know this?
Edited 1 time(s). Last edited Wednesday, February 13, 2008 6:59 AM
my prob is I am never sure what is garbage & what is not...
like visonik...
I found a deal on a 10 in a box with a 300 watt mono amp & install kit for 85
my step son says he had this setup & it was crap...
I don't see how but ok...
I know that there are good & bad in each brand & thats why i ask what better on a budget
I mean a tight small budget
so thats 1 of several reasons i like the lanzar....
I mean in 1995 (yeah 13 yrs ago) when i bought my 2 mtx 10's i caught them on sale for 100.00
now thats was the subs with no box & no amp...
i bought mtx due to reputation & knowledge of them...
the market is so much more flooded with high dollar stuff now that I am never to proud to ask for advice of those in the know....
seems Lanman knows....
have yet to see any better advice in any forum area here from to many others & being new here that may be because i haven't looked deep enough, but I am trying to.
so with that said i am still looking at all options & i think the option of the Lanzar sub is so far my best bet
but we shall see
thanks & keep the advice comming ya'll........ just no personal slams on any 1 person please, thats not this is about......

ok well things change & things stay the same....
I have a single sealed sub box now.... my step sons spare, I have put 1 of my 2 MTX 10" subs in it....
as stated a couple of times before....I already had all of this
now for the part that has changed...
friday night I won an auction on ebay
picked up a
MTX Thunder TC2002 2 channel amp nothing wrong with it for
25.00 shipped to my house..... these are like 199.99 in the store I think
this is a
200 watt rms @ 4ohm bridged amp with a max power of 600 watts amp
so that took care of my needing a good amp on a budget situation....
now if my MTX road thunder two sub can hold up then that part is set....
still have to get a pair of 3 1/2 inch dash speakers
so things are looking good
Laterz folx

ok here it is monday......
saturday my new amp was delivered to my house & when i woke up there it was sitting in my room & I was like Heck Yeah!!!! party time!
well installed amp into car, after having replaced the front brakes on my car Saturday.... all wires ran & the amp works YEAH!!!
ok but my little 13 yr old 10 inch mtx sub bottoms out too quick for the sealed box, ( I think box is not big enough) the specs on sub says minimum is 1 cu ft of space needed for sealed enclosure
this box i know is smaller than 1 cu ft, so i wound up putting my stepsons AudioPipe 10 inch sub in the trunk with my new amp....
man that little sub hits hard....
found out the heatshield above the muffler rattles with every hit of the sub....
funny part is i can open my trunk & the rattle noise stops, then shut trunk.....there it is again....
i can live with it, but it's annoying, especially outside the car....
oh but it feels so good to have my bass back
so looks like i will soon be getting the little Lanzar sub that lanman showed me, I will also get my new dash speakers at the same time & all should be right audio wise after that
Laterz ya'll

well after much thought about my mtx 10 inch sub & a little more testing... i do believe after 13 years the voice coil is shot on the sub.... & thats the whole problem....bass mechanix played thru them with a crossover tuned for my 2 mtx's in a bandpass just flat wore them out...could have been the snoop or the bow wow or the eminem or the panterra or.... well you get the point....
needless to say both subs will work as long as i don't put alot of hard bottom out boom bass in them in a sealed enclosure, soooooooo i will be ordering the max10 lanzar sub asap for my trunk...
along with a pair of Lanzar 3.5's for my dash.... like the look & they will match with my sub nicely too....
on a completely different note....
i know that alot of people do not hold certain brands of audio equipment in high regard & thats kewl, cause a lot of supposed highend stuff out there is crap & hence why the price is cheap, but i have a 2nd job along with my wife running a karaoke setup on the weekends at a local resteraunt where we live & i recently blew 1 of my speakers for setup.... wasn't supposed to be able to but i did....
here's what i have.... berringer 180 watt 5 ch amp with 100 fx presets for vocal in the form of a 24bit digital processor...
2 berringer s1220 studio speakers, 12 inch woofer & horn tweeter.... supposed to handle 280 watts each.... amp puts out 180 max with a rms of 100 per speaker, speakers come to find out handle 280 peak, with 70 watt rms....well technically i still shouldn't have been able to blow them, but i did blow one woofer.
well warranty work would have had us down for a few weeks....boss said screw this , find me parts to fix with... so i go searching & find 12 inch woofers for 17.00 each.
they are PYLE Studio Pro woofers that handle 250 watts RMS with 500 peak...showed the boss, he ordered 2, 1 for the bad speaker & 1 for the good speaker (i am keeping the other 12 inch woofer that is good), so the new woofers come in & I replaced them, hooked them up & WHOLLY F'N COW these are NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!
now i got more sound than i did when we got them 5 months ago....
so for systems like what we use I recomend these Pyle Studio Pro woofers... the are Nice..........found them on teptronic.com for 16.99 each which is a heck of a deal.
n e ways, will let ya'll know as soon as car audio is finished & dangit, got to get that heat shield silenced or removed from the car (which would be silencing it
)

NOT for car audio...
these were the
Studio Pro woofers for a set of studio speakers for our
Karaoke system....
they are 8 ohm speakers
& they blow the friggen berringers away that were originally in the speakers
tonight will be the first night with them since install & test....
gonna be rocking tonight

what lanzar sub are u looking at? i had 1 of lanzars older amps and it was pretty good IMO if i remember correctly some of there boards are the same as Tsunami
FDP 62MM TB, FFP Performance Chip, FFP Underdrive Pully, WAI, Hi Flow Cat, 2.5" Catback, Functional Ram Air Hood, Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch
I am going to get the Lanzar Max 10.... single voice coil 10 inch sub....
it's a sub made for for small enclosures
it's a 400 watt rms 800 watt max sub
which is perfect for my MTX amp i got & the small trunk i have since it is a convertible...
right now i have an audio pipe 10 in there, but i have to give it back to my son here pretty soon, he got a truck last week & he wants to put it in there with his amp
so i will have it ordered & installed really soon, along with non blown 3.5 dash speakers (stock ones are blown & Crappy sounding)
anyways....

What I have in my sig is a decent budget setup. Depending on how much 'bang' you want, of course.
