So I am getting my deck in next week and my buddy tells me that i need a GMCO so that the system will work.

pretty sure you only need it if you have a the BOSE option or w/e. i have an 03, no BOSE no OnStar, i didnt need one, mine works fine. dont know if you could use it anyway to keep your door chimes if you wanted. mine are gone and i dont miss them, only problem is sometimes if its not dark enough ill forget i have my lights on lol

cavaliers never came with the bose option but there are a few that did come with onstar,
