2000 Sunfire GT Covert - Keyless entry Standard??

Hi, Gf and I just bought a 2000 GT Convertible - is Keyless Entry Standard on this car?

We didn't get a remote entry thing with the car so were wondering if the module is actually inside and just need to get a new remote and program it, or we need to buy a new module and remotes

Thanks!

If it is, the receiver is located on the back of the rear right wheel well, under the trunk liner. At least thats where it is on my '98.

Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

take it to the dealer and have them check with a tech 2. Thats the only way to program it if you do have one.

Look at the Body Control Module (black box, under the dash, on the A-pillar on the driver's side). It's a black box with a white sticker on it, and three plugs... one blue, one brown, one purple. If the sticker says "BCM / RFA" on it, you have keyless entry. If no "RFA", just "BCM" then... no keyless.

If you change the BCM.. you need one with the same options as your car. It will also affect your mileage. And it will have to be programmed to your radio (if you're using a factory radio) and keyfobs, using a GM Tech 2 diagnostic tool.

There isn't an easy way to program new fobs, as in the 95-99 J-cars...

Thanks a ton for the info! - If i buy a 3rd party keyless is it installable? or will it interfere with the OEM - I called one dealer and they wanted 650$+labor for a new remote and programming - BS if if you ask me - I can buy a 3rd party for less than 100 - any good places in BC??

Thanks again

Buy? Heh.. I just grab 'em at the wrecking yard, then go to a dealer and have them reprogrammed. I guess it helps having my Mum work there Doesn't cost me anything... it's a 5 minute procedure, if that. Helps if the Tech knows what buttons to press too...

Cool - I just checked it is a BCM/RFA - Now to go looking for remotes

Thanks for the help Lenko - which wrecking yard do you usually go to - any downtown area?

Just called another dealership - convinced them I don't need the computer control module

129.99+tx for the remote
50$ for the programming

what a ripoff - i was like 'It take you 5 minutes with a tech 2 tool and you're charging 50 bucks!' --- his response 'That's how we make our money!'

so yea I'll try to find a remote at a wreckers or something - does anyone know anyone in BC with a tech 2 tool outside of dealerships?

BC, as in British Columbia? (I'm confused, because your registry says Ontario...!) Nope, none that I know of. I know of a few guys back East, but to be honest I don't know exactly where... I run into them at Bashes and so on...

The cheapest dealer around here is probably Dueck on Terminal Ave near Science World. I used to go there all the time, so they sorta know me.. I was never charged for remote reprogramming or deck reflashing... but PCM reflashes, they would charge me...

As for wreckers... I always hit up the ones on the east side of Mitchell Island... and the ones on Scott Road in Surrey. I might have a couple of remotes laying around here, but I'll have to look for them. My "shop" aka second bedroom is a disaster of disorganization at the moment.

my old car

I haven't talked to you in a while but i remember talking to you around the time your one car got torched (RIP)

thanks agian for the help - yea they said 'Thats how we make our money' about the programming. - If you do have a couple remotes lying around thats awesome - I'd be happy to buy them from you.

The new car we have is really sweet - the GT Convert is a nice package

Cheers and thanks
