i have never amped my speakers before. i have an amp now for the sub, but i was wondering if it was worth amping the speakers? the 4x6's are 40 watt rms and the 6x9's are 90 watt rms so is it worth amping? here is a 4 channel amp that i was looking at

if you know of an amp that would work better, if its worth amping the speakers at all, please let me know. i just figured if its not worth it, i will save my money. Thanks
will be better than stock. good for a start. should be pretty simple if you've already done the wiring. 4x6's and 6x9's are more or less drop in. the sound will be a lot more defined, more crisp highs, cleaner mids and lows. if all you need is the amp its a no brainer.
i wouldnt buy from bestbuy though, check out woofersetc.com looks like its 40 bucks cheaper there, lots of other brands as well

my concern is finding an amp that is wont blow the fronts since they are only 40 rms yet not cheat the rears which are 90 rms. i am not a huge guru on audio, i just know basic stuff. So if this is a good amp to keep from blowing my speakers and helping them sound more clear and louder, then i will get it.
well you can usually go a little above the speakers rms rating. but amping your speaks at all will be helping them even if you dont give them their total rms power
"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin
^^JBO is about not being that guy
you will notice a difference with an amp. That amp should be fine. Are you using stock speakers??
i am thinking some infinity 4x6's in the doors and i have kicker 6x9's in the back. the 4x6's are 40 watt rms and the rear are 90rms

I'd get some 6.5s for the fronts if you're even thinking about amping 'em. 4x6s can't handle much obviously and just aren't as crisp as 6.5s. Trust me, I went from Pioneer 4x6s to the ones I have now and the difference was just about night and day.
thanks for the great advice, i went ahead and got that amp
i am not very handy, where could i get the brackets to hold the 6.5's? and what is a good rms for 6.5's? what is a recommended brand? i did a lot of research for the 4x6's, but i will look into the 6.5's
im replacing my 4x6's with 6.5's right now, I just made a pattern and some wood mounts out of 5/8 particle board. it was pretty easy.
so i took your advice and got 6.5 for the doors. I couldn't pass up the deal, they are pioneer, 50 rms, retail for $99.95 and i got them for $39.95, Now they are 4-way speakers. Are they better/worse, or the same as 2-way speakers? i felt for the money they were worth getting.
also, now i need to know how to make/ or where to buy the brackets for the 6.5's. Is there a write up for how to make them? i saw on the speaker sizing sticky that you use 5/8 board, but i need a step by step. and i know everyone said that the pre-made brackets aren't very good, but for price comparing, where could i get the brackets?
thanks for all the help and advice
they make 4-ways?
link to the speakers please..
and to mount 6.5 IIRC there is a tutorial in one of the stickies
eBay MDF 4x6 to 6.5" Adapters
I bought these and they worked out perfectly, completely plug and play. But even if you don't get 'em, you see how they're constructed. Don't even consider the plastic ones.
those ebay ones look pretty good. probably worth buying for the effort it takes.
if you already have a jigsaw, drill, and MDF then you can make your own.
1-make cardboard template of speaker area. will probably look like 2 crescent moon shapes.
2-cut out MDF pieces (2) for each door
3-mark door screw locations
4-pre drill MDF for door screw locations
5-cut out mounting ring for speaker
6-mount MDF pieces (2) to door
7-estimate speaker ring position, cut door metal if necessary
8-pre-drill speaker ring and MDF pieces.
9-mount speaker ring to MDF pieces
10-mark speaker screw locations and pre drill speaker ring
11-mount speaker to trim ring
12-check clearances around metal, window, door panel, unmount, trim as necessary
12-wire up speaker!

personally i'd prefer a 2 way speaker versus a 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 way speaker. if you think about it, if your speakers cost 100 bucks. a two way speaker basically comes down to 2- $50 speakers a 4 way setup means you'd have 4- $25 speakers. i'd rather have two high end speakers compared to 4 low end speakers. you dont need to break the system down that many ways to get good sound, its more marketing hype then anything else. to most people 4 seems bettter then 3 because you get 1 more. for your price range though its not going to make much diffrence, just go with what sounds good to you.

well its only 2 speakers. i am not an audio guru, so i dont know all the details, but they sounded good for the doors, and the reviews were good with them....plus they saved me $70 which is nice. if i get them in and a year later feel that they aren't what i want, i am only out $40 but i will give them a try.
I have 3-ways in the back of my car..... they sound good..... but they are Infinity 6x9's powered by an Alpine amp...
Just get a 4 channel amp and tune the front and rear speakers separately..... you can turn the gain down for the front speakers if need be..
YES it helps to amp ur speeks
ya if your happy with the 4ways then stick with it. There is ALWAYS something better, sometimes its better to just not hear about them or audio may turn into a money pit.
, or an addiction.
My wires cost more than your speakers

I agree /\
this is my setup now, and it sounds good, (it sounds great after tuning the amps, which might be all you need)
Hertz 6.5's for the front @200w (cant remember model name)
Kenwood 6x9's in rear (KF 6960 IE) (75RMS 300Peak) (were Inexpensive, yet have great quality without amping)
(Clarion 400x4 (100w/channel)) (for front and rears)
and Deck Kenwood KDC MP-532U (currently out for repairs)
and Subs Kenwood KFC W3010 (200RMS 1000 Peak)
And Sub Amp Alpine 450Watt (cant remember model name)
inexpensive rears(like mine) ($85CDN/pair) and 6.5's in fronts ($109 CDN/pair)(need adapter, best if flush speakers, not raised, otherwise it will hit front door panel) will make a world of difference, even with the stock deck.
Not meaning to hijack thread, but a PM would be nice, if anyone has an answer...
Q:
I get power drain after playing at 30/35 volume for ~ 1.5Hrs, I have an interstate battery at 650cca and 850ca (I think), what amperage alternator would be optimal, and not too overpowering for this system...? (I currently have stock alternator)
Thrice . wrote:i think you should go back and try to actually order some cam valves. see if he has any in stock. then ask him to give you an actual price and show you the website or anything legit about where he orders from...for all you know he is this dumb, and orders things that don't exist....he's probably got 10 of those ebay transistors that gave him eleventy hundred pony power....what a douche.
Stock alternator is plenty fine for what you have. 4 gauge big 3 might help you out some.
