False floor help
Thursday, March 15, 2007 11:41 AM
Hey guys, i did a search but couldnt quite find what i needed. I am looking to build a false floor in my 97 cav. I took out the stock carpeting and dont really want to put it back in, so my exsisiting system tends to slide around and is now extremely ghetto rigged with bungee cords. this take away from my cars tasteful outter apperance needs fixing. so i wanted to build a false floor to mount the amp, capacitor and sub box. I am not sure how to get started, i dont want anything fancy, just a basic design! any ideas are welcome or insight on how to do this! thank you!

i used to have a GP going for the false floor templates. i still have templates available if interested. how high are you looking to have the false floor rise up from the stock floor?

not very high, maybe 5-6 inches. I just need something to stop everything from sliding and have something to mount everything properly and have it look tasteful at the same time. anything is better than bungee chords....not very proud of it currently

You could always make your own template using cardboard. It's kind of a PITA, but cardboard is stiff, and alot easier (and cheaper) to cut and manipulate than MDF.

Yeah i thought about the cardboard and it really will be a PITA . Baggs, how much would a template run me?

Just secure everything down. Use velcro, allthread, whatever.

using cardboard isn't very hard to do, don't be so lazy.

make a template of each side, then tape them all together and take them out. trace and cut

if you guys are interested in a template...shoot me a PM.

but for all my temlates i build, i piece together pieces of cardboard...tape them together to get all the little angles needed in the corners etc.....

then take the taped together template and trace it to a one sheet template. refit...trim as necessary and then transfer to MDF.
thats basically the process i use..in a nutshell

I have the "How To" do exactly this pictured in the interior forum.

How To Custom Build Dashes, Sub Enclosures, Trim Panels, etc

It shows you how to build pretty much everything in our cars.

Yea, I already looked through that. I'm basically just looking for some measurements or a template in the shape of the trunk that I could just copy. I'm not really looking to fiberglass like that...

??
I have pictured how to make the template from cardboard, cut it out of wood, and cut out the locations for amps and subs.

One thing to keep in mind; if someone does give you a template premade for the floor, it will not be the exact shapes 5-6" up the walls - so you will have gaps, and it may be above the latch so you would have to build in that gap too. It depends on how nice you want the finished product to look.

Well I was just hoping that someone already did have a pre-made cardboard cutout that I could use. It would just make the whole process a lot easier. Even if it did need some minor changes here and there...
