Both the cigarette lighter jack and the aux power port on the side of the center console are constantly on. Good for some applications, I guess, but it's annoying that my GPS won't turn off when I shut off the car.
How hard would it be to wire up the console power thing to turn off when the car's off?
If the plug is anything like that of most radar detectors you can take apart the plug or cut it off and then just used the exposed wires to connect to either the ignition on or off, or like I did with my radar detector, a fuse that switch's on/off with the car.
That's an option too I guess, but I use the gps in 2 different cars so I don't really want to go cutting up the cord for it lol
um a little bit of wire, a fuse and holder, and crimp it or solder. Just cut the postive wire off the back of the socket and attach you fused switched power source there
Does the GPS power cord unplug from the GPS itself? If it does just go to radoishack and get a universal cig lighter cord. You can chop up both cords and permanently wire both vehicles with switched power. When your not using it in one vehicle just tuck the cord away somewhere
what he wants:
take one fo the cig ports, cut the power wire, then go to the wiper fuse of the ignition switch, get power and run it to the cig lighter, then plug in and you're done
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
just get one of
these....wire it up to ignition with a fuse or tape to your wiper fuse ground the other end and just plug up your gps! I would use a inline fuse and tap into accessory in the ignition....
