Hey, I have 4 MTX 9500 12s in MTX sledgehammer boxes in my beretta, i was wondering if JL audio 12W7s would be better? Im using 2 hifonics maxximus 5000 watt amps right now to power the 9500s. Thanks!!
i dont have w7's, but i wouldnt trade my JL's for anything

lol, i just watched a video on myspace the other day.. kicker L7s blew at 102 volts, JLs at 106 volts, the 9500 was at 142 still going strong.. they said theyve never had one defective or blow.. and neither have the manufactures... ive never heard W7s... but i like MTX, so id go 9500 12s...
BTW, heres the link to that video...

Out put wise the 9500 will kill the w7. JL Audio is way over rated, not saying they dont make good products cause they do. I would stick w/ the 9500's and drop them pos sledge hammer boxes for some custom built boxs or wall. Also the maxximus is the 10kw amp not 5kw. The goliath is the 5kw amp. Also i have a hard time believing you are running 2500rms to each MTX 9500, cause in my testing they were limited to about 1800rms due to mechanical limits, the coil would take much more power just the suspension is soft and reachs mechanical limits.

mtx 9500 ftw but ifit were me I would drop the 9500's and go with the mtx ftl subs
If you want loud, go with MTX.
If you want Loud and CLEAR go with a W7.
BTW a W7 is only 750watts RMS. Those test where they blow them at 106 volts is stupid. Pushing any woofer beyond it's limit is gonna break it.
106volts = 3,745watts @ 3ohm. So that test is just plain stupid.
I installed 3 15" 9500s and a MTX 92001 amp and it was insane loud, but sounded like GARBAGE!
To each their own.
Yeah. Well, the wall in my car really all it is, is 2 sledgehammer boxes stacked on top of each other. I love the 9500 series, was thinking about getting maybe 2 more to have 6, but the guy at the local audio shop told me that I wasted money on even 4. He said anything past 1 you wont notice much difference. Is that true? I would think the ore you had the louder... but??
If you want louder, build a custom ported wall, it will put them crappy sledge hammer boxes to shame. Its the cheapest and most effective option. If you deside later down the road you want something louder, just swap the subs out.

the only 9500 worth its weight is the DD 9500s. And its complete bs that there has never been one blown. I know people who stopped running them because they blew them like candles.
yea... just sharing the video... i love 9500s... but ive also never heard any JLs, so i cant say anything for the JLs against them... ive heard mike's system with his 4, and it pounds... only problem is, the amps pull so much, all his batterys are dead within like 10 minuates with it maybe 1/4 of the way up...

I;ve heard w7's, never heard (in person) 9500's. But youtube both, my god those w7's move like crazy. I know you can't go by what they look like in a video but damn the w7's practically blow apart the guys cars who have them. lol. my friend with 2 13w7's makes insane bass, too much for me but its pretty cool. In Canada the 13w7 goes for 1000 bucks a piece at some places though so certainly not cheap... all though in the U.S i've seen them for 600 ish.

now that i think about it... i think they could be fairly equal in loudness and sound quality, as long as each has their best potential box, and amplifier.... i could be wrong... i love the 9500s though lol... ive heard orion HCCAs outpound both JL 12W7s and MTX 9500s... anyone know if this is true? do they sound good too? Theyre actually cheaper than both JLs and MTXs too...

I dont care for either driver but the 9500 will out perform the w7 in spl. The w7 does sound a heck of alot better then the 9500 tho. There are alot better drivers out there for the money then both of them and the same goes for the HCCA. What the OP needs to do is just build a better box, the install means alot more then the equipment used.

I wouldnt say that the mtx 9500 is junk, because its a decent driver. Its deffintly not worth the price tag but its a decent sub. As for alot of them blowing, all subs blow and its usaly beause of user error. The 9500 will take a ton of abuse actualy, but its not the best designed driver. The suspension is way to weak for the 4" coil. The coil would take alot more power but the suspension reachs mechanical limits way before that. The DD 9500 is an awsome drive, i will aggree with you there, but there CS sucks balls. I love dd products but they have pissed me off to were i will never run there products again, no matter how nice they are.

Its RFL and that driver would suck for playing music. Its a burp sub, plain and simple.

i like to hear words with my nice, crisp, clean bass.
that's probably why i'm not in competitions.
Yeah. The power issues are bad. It gets annoying!! I'm thinking about maybe 6 9500 12s in custom boxes. I don't use this in competitions, this is just a system for the streets, and shows. What could I do to improve the electrical system? I know the "big 3", and ive looked at alternators... im running 6 batterys in the trunk and 1 up front. Theyre just cheap wal-mart batterys though. Would optimas and the big 3 be a good idea??
Your gonna need to upgrade your electrical alot to run 10kwrms. First i would contact Power Master or Ohio Gen and get the biggest alternator you can for your car and upgade the big 3 with 1/0. Your also gonna have to get some better bats. Your also gonna need ATLEAST four good bats (Kinetik HC2400, SPL Cell SPL-C115, Power Master D3100, Batcap 2000, Odyssey 2150, Stinger 2150). Your also gonna have to do two runs of 1/0 power and ground to the back.

I think he was right. FTL is about it for the RFL's.

it is a decent driver until you factor in the price. It doesnt get louder than woofers with a lower cost point and doesnt sound better. Doesnt combine the two either. therefore I feel it is not worth its weight. I do have to agree with DDs CS sucking donkey kong though. of course I only run a measly 2500 watts to each one so I dont have to worry about them going up lol.
