hey guys
i have a system hooked up to my car and i have 2 amps . one is a mtx 2002 600 watt 2-channel for the subs and i have another amp for my 6x9s in back its a rockford fosgate 200A4 4-channel amp . i am trying to hook up the 4-channel amp .. can somone tell me how to hook this up along with the amp for the subs .
thanks
chris
ok, depends on how big your current power wire is. you have a few options, im guessing your going to be pushing around 1000 watts, so your going to need the wiring to accommodate this, either two seperate 4 gauge power wires or one 2 gauge power wire would get the job done nicely. of course you could probably run two 8 gauge wires and be fine as well, but for the absolute best output, you cannot go wrong with big wiring.
if your going 2 gauge, get a distribution block that has one 2 gauge input and two 4 gauge outputs, then run one wire to each amp. if your going two 4 gauge or two 8 gauge power wires, its self explanatory, one wire to each amp. whatever you do make sure you have fuses in both wires, or one large fuse in the 2 gauge power wire.
the ground- run a separate wire to a second location for the second amp, or just use the current location, just make sure you have two grounds, one for each amp.
remote wire-just go ahead and run a jumper wire from the first amp's remote wire. this does not power anything, it just lets the amps know when they need to be turned on so basically any size wire can work here.
then just hook up the speaker outputs to whichever speakers you choose.
done.

okay i needs a distribution block first thing .. what about the rea wires .. dont i need them also
oh sh!t! i forgot about that lol
check your cd player and see if it has more than one rca output, if your lucky it will have 3, a front, rear and sub woofer output. sub output obviously goes to the sub amp. the others go to the highs amp.

alright i will check that tomorrow and let you know . thank you for helping me out

Also, most good amps have a set of RCA output jacks for multiple amp setups too. It makes life easier.
true, but if all he has is a sub output it wont work because the deck will only be sending lows output signal to the amp.

ok i have one question about 4 channel amps.
first of i have a radio that has only REAR SW rca's.
if i wanted to amp a subwoofer and the speakers how would i do that then?
from what i understand about 4 channel amps and hooking them up.. i wire the amp then just hook up the speaker outputs from the amp to the car speakers wire?
question...do i connect the speaker outputs from the ampt to the speaker wire from the car harness, the radio harness or both the car harness and radio harness combined so that there are three wires together? thats the only part im confused in.
oh and also, without rca's this will not work huh? why is that? so if i wanted to amp speakers and a subwoofer i need front, rear and subwoofer rca's?

i guess what im trying to ask is, are rca's nesecary to amp door and rear speakers to a four channel amp?

the rcas are not necessary if the amp has high level inputs. in wich case you would take the speaker wires from the stereo to the high level inputs and wire the outputs to the speakers

ok so i would wire from the speaker wire in the harness to the speaker output on the amp? is the level high enough from the harness? oh by the way the amp is a jensen LXA400

you take the speaker outs from the head unit and connect them to the high level ins on the amp. then you take the outputs from the amp and connect them to the speakers. thats it.

ok my head unit is kinda far away from where i want to hook up the amp so what should i do in that case
Are you using an after market head unit?
@!#$ this.... what head unit model number do you currently have in the car?

with the high level input oyu can just use the wires that go to your 6x9"s currently in the back, they are allready ran for you u just need to use them!
click sig for my car audio videos
yea i do but it only has the sub rca outputs and i already have the rca cables from the 2 channel amp plug into them
Then your options are high level and low level inputs for the 4 channel amp.
I have similar setup, everything is hook up ( I connected both sets of rca's, distribution block, grounds wires to both amps). My question is how & where do I. Connect the speaker wires. I.E the positive and negative terminals
Also the speakers I hook up to 4 channel amps is 4x6 and 6x9
what's with noobs bumping old ass threads lately? lol
Anyway, how is it that you wired everything else and are confused about the speaker wires? lol What kind of amp and what speakers are you running? if it's simply 4 speakers and a 4 channel amp, it should all be labeled and good to go...

yea it should be pretty straightforward. but idk how those 4x6 are gonna handle with an amp going to them
1.) I ran a power wire to the distribution block from the battery.
2.) From the distribution block to kenwood 2 channel and kenwood 4 channel amp
3.) Than grounded both amp in seperate location
4.) Remote wire from the head unit to the amps
5.) Front and rear Rca's from the head unit to the amps
What am i missing?
*my subs already hook up to the 2 channel amp I just need help wit 4 channel amp

They're SEARCHING. This is our fault
@!#$.... you're right. I just realized "omg search!" has lead to "omg stop bumping old threads!". How do we win? Maybe I should just bitch less.
