Just out of couriousity I figured I would get some opinions... I myself have my subs facing inwards towards the cab directly behind the backseat and my backseat is almost always down. I believe that the sound quality is better this way and also less outside noise. Overall My opinion would be to face them in. But a couple people have told me that it hits way harder and sounds better with the subs facing outwards towards the trunk? Any opinions on how you guys have your set up?

.... Also should I go all kenwood by replacing the subs and amp with kenwood? If so which kenwood subs/amp? Or should I stick with Planet audio and get a nice planet audio amp with bass knob to go along with the Zetars? Any opinions would be nice
I think the planet audio zetars sound pretty good, Ive never really heard any Kenwood subs....

i have mine facing backwards.....just baised off what a friend told me.....and i personally couldnt hear that much of a difference, but i think they did sound a lil louder and clearer

Seriously, that's what I did and I found facing towards the trunk to be better. And to answer your other question, you can't really go wrong with Kenwood although I've never dealt with Planet Audio. I'd be more concerned with specs than brand name anyways.
Facing in : sound goes directly to listeners, little or no reflection off of surfaces, the sound you hear is coming from the cone
Facing back : The right way to do this is called "horn loading", leaving a foot or two between the sub and the back wall. The sub pushes on the air out and into the cab, but it also sends a wave at the rear wall which reflects back and reinforces the first wave coming from the cone. It's louder, but there's more chance for bad sounds to arise due to vibes, etc.
i have the subs facing the trunk, magnets facing the back seat.....sounds way better IMO.....
if you face the subs to your truck it should hit harder becuase thier is less space, when you favce them to you and it's an open area their is more area to cover until the sound hits something

Actually no. It's not about space. It's about reflecting waves. If that was the case, walling a car with subs forward wouldn't be loud at all.
has this question not been put in the faq yet? i hardly come in this forum, but almost everytime i do it seems like this question is being asked.
lanman hit it on the head. facing the subs forward WITHOUT SEALING THEOPEN AREA AROUND THE BOX will have cancellation issue and wont be quite as loud as if you face it towards the rear. if you face it forward and then seal up the rear deck and side panels and the open area around the box it will be louder then facing it backwards, but for most people that to much work to bother with.

from what ive understood is if ur box is strut to strut and floor to rear deck lid(pretty much no space between the box and car)its best to face them towards the front seats
when i build something this big i always face them towards the cab and find it to be louder

Firing forward, with it sealed off is definitely louder.
depends on if your trying to increase box capacity, subs inside take up space, subs outside do not. There should be little difference, but its up to your preference. I have mine mounted with the cones facing out. I like having some trunk space.

So i've been reading what everyone says, and am proposing a different scenario...
I've removed my back seats, and building a wall to seal everything off, and am considering firing my subs forward, i can't really "play" with it because it's going to be in a stationary box. So is there going to be a cancellation issue? This is assuming both cone and magnet are on the interior of the cabin. I guess I could put the magnet in the trunk, cone in the cabin. Any ideas folks?

Nope. If you seal the trunk from the cab there will be no issues with cancellation.
i have mine facing the trunk and im happy wih it.
my system is
alpine hu
clarion speakers front and back (just 6x9's and 4x6's like the stock setup nothing crazy)
clarion 200 wat amp for speakers
clarion eq
2 advent 10 inch subs (facing the trunk lid)
and a 300 watt pioneer amp for the subs.
Will there be cancelation issues if you mount on either quaterpanel facing inside the trunk?
I would assume no, cause almost every factory sub woofer is mounted this way, but they're not as powerfull or big.
I switched my subs to facing in and did not like it. so i tried it the way we had my friends mazda set up and now they are angled out and up and i really like it.

if its mounted back against the corner like that then your not likely to have much cancellation at all. its no diffrent then pointing them forwards and sealing up around it, only diffrence between the two really is the amount of space you are pressurising.
