port location

I was looking at subwoofer enclosures online (prefab and ones the average joe builds in their garage) and i noticed that some have ports in the middle of the box between the subs, or on the ends of the box (outer side of the subs) Does the location of the ports matter at all?

Port placement can make a dramatic difference in the output of your woofers. Most of the time for the cavaliers, It is best to go port back or out the passenger side if used for daily driving, can change if used in SPL lames. Unless of course you are firing forward with the woofers, then seal it all off of the trunk as best as possible and shoot woofers and port forward.

Well this is the 3 choices of boxes i would like to do (as far as spot to put the port:

Center: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_10911_Sonic+Sub+Box-+2SV12+-BLACK-.html

Side: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7854_Sonic+Sub+Box-+2SSV12.html

Bottom: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7516_Sonic+Sub+Box-+2SBV12.html

Again, these are just some random ones i found off that site. I dont think i will buy one of these unless i cant afford to buy all the stuff i need to build my own (and i need everything from stands to saws to MDF) haha.

the only one of those designs i would completely say no to is the side, if you weregoing to do sides id put a port on each end and have the enclosure divided internally. but i personal like to go with the bottom...

"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin

Yeah, I kinda like the bottom one better and the cubit feet for that one are slightly bigger than required for the Type R's I have. So that one would be an ideal box to buy/build. Its not going in my cavy since that has a box already. I am putting a system in my explorer so im not worried about the clearances with the exception of it being less than 44 inches wide lol
